🎉 BE THE ONES IS FOUR! 🎉

August marks our FOURTH birthday!

Four years ago, we knew South Carolina deserved a place where more people felt they belonged, where civic participation felt possible, and where communities had the support they needed to shape their own future.

Read our birthday reflection & why we chose Moving FOURward Together as our birthday theme here

We started with an idea (and maybe a stubborn belief): if we invest in people, build and nurture relationships, make civic participation feel more possible - and keep showing up - something extraordinary could grow.

Four years later, here we are.

Thousands of voters registered. Young leaders stepping into their power. Communities coming together and rebuilding trust. Partnerships built across the state. A whole lot of joy along the way. And a belief stronger than ever that nobody builds power alone.

So, as we celebrate our FOURth birthday, we’re calling this month of celebrations:

✨ Moving FOURward Together ✨

Yes, it's a bit of a pun (we couldn't resist). But it's also the truest way we know how to describe what's ahead. This moment isn't asking us to move faster, it's asking us to move together.

Together isn’t just a value we hold; it’s a strategy. It’s how we got here and how we’ll move into what comes next.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll celebrate 4 years of Be The Ones by sharing what these years have taught us, our birthday wishes, stories of where we've been and where we're going - and, the week of August 24th, we're throwing it down our annual birthday match fundraiser.

Here’s to FOUR years. 🥳
Here’s to the people who made them possible. 👋
Here’s to the next chapter. 🎉

Here's to Moving FOURward Together. 💙

🎓 Before the first class. Before the CofC v Citadel basketball game (IYKYK). Before move-in day.

For the second year in a row, our Be The Ones College of Charleston Chapter has spent the summer at 9 different Freshman Orientation days welcoming incoming students, answering questions, and helping students get registered to vote.

This opportunity matters because students make important decisions about where they’ll vote long before Election Day. By meeting them at orientation, we’re able to answer questions while they’re making plans for the year ahead … not weeks before a registration deadline when it can feel rushed or confusing.

We believe civic participation should be part of the college experience from day one.☝️

Huge thank you to our incredible student leaders and volunteers who spent their summer making sure the next class of Cougars knows they belong - not just on campus, but in our democracy too. 💙

Since the Supreme Court gutted a major piece of the Voting Rights Act, Southern states (including South Carolina) rushed to advance contorted Congressional voting maps that diminished Black and Brown political power.

The lawmakers pushing these unfair voting maps claimed it was to support “common sense” changes that would bring “conservative values” to Congress.

However, that rhetoric, reminiscent of the dog-whistling language used to defend Jim Crow, ignores the rich diversity of Southern communities and the fundamental principle that every voice deserves fair representation.

The South is not defined by efforts to silence communities. It is defined by the people who continue to organize, build, and fight for a democracy where every voice matters.

Be The Ones is proud to stand alongside SOLVE and partners across the South in affirming the values of equity, inclusion, and fair representation.

Together, we're working toward a South where every community has the opportunity to be heard, represented, and included in shaping our collective future.

📣 South Carolina has something to say, y’all.

South Carolina became the only Southern state to hold off mid-decade redistricting and then shattered voter turnout records across the state in our primary. AND we’ve had some big wins at the State House that we need to talk about too!

So... what happened? What does it mean? And what’s next?

Join us TOMORROW, Tuesday, June 30 from 7–8 PM as we unpack it all.
Virtual + open to all!

✨ Meet our 2026 Young Leaders Summit Visionary Fellows! ✨

We are thrilled to introduce this year's Visionary Fellows: Brooklyn, Jaylynn, Luke, Malachi, Natasha, Roni, Rory, and Zenya.

Over the next five months, these incredible young leaders from across South Carolina will work alongside the Be The Ones team to dream, design, and bring to life our 3rd Annual Young Leaders Summit. From helping set the vision for what young people need most right now, to shaping workshops and experiences, the Fellows play a critical role in building a summit that is by young people, for young people.

Through the fellowship, they'll deepen their skills in community organizing, leadership development, civic engagement, and collective problem-solving — while helping create spaces where young South Carolinians can connect, learn, and build power together.

We can't wait for you to learn more about them and hear from them over the coming months.

To everyone who applied this year: THANK YOU! We were blown away by the passion, creativity, and commitment reflected in your applications. This was our largest and most competitive applicant pool yet, and it left us feeling incredibly hopeful about the future of South Carolina.

Whether you were selected or not, please know this: we can't wait to continue building civic power alongside you. The future we're working toward will take all of us.

And, SAVE THE DATE: our 3rd Annual Young Leaders Summit will take place on Saturday, October 3rd. For more info & to save your spot: betheones.org/summit

In recent months, Tennessee and South Carolina have been on the frontlines of the fight for fair maps, representation, & democracy - and have shown what is possible when communities organize. While the details may be different, the stakes are the same.

That's why we're bringing together leaders from Tennessee and South Carolina for a virtual conversation about what these recent redistricting fights have taught us about organizing, local leadership, and building people power.

Whether or not you call Tennessee or South Carolina home, this conversation matters and we hope you will join us!

Today, we're celebrating Juneteenth and reflecting on a simple truth: freedom is never handed down. It is fought for, protected, expanded, and reimagined by ordinary people working together.

The story of Juneteenth is a story of resilience, community, hope, and the ongoing pursuit of a more just future.

It is both a celebration of liberation and a reminder that freedom delayed is freedom denied.

At Be The Ones, we're grateful to stand on the shoulders of generations of Black organizers, leaders, and communities who showed us what people power looks like.

May we honor that legacy not only in celebration, but in how we show up for one another and our communities every day.

Happy Juneteenth.
