As stated NOTHING has been decided yet and we are still unsure of the path forward. We are scenario planning for legislation to get rushed through as well as potentially a special session and what that will all look like. But again, we do not know for sure and will let you know as we know more.

During Friday’s South Carolina House subcommittee hearing on redistricting, Be The Ones Advocacy & Community Organizing Director Dylan Gunnels shared a message of truth.

While Dylan noted these were his personal words, we want to be clear: Be The Ones stands fully and unapologetically with him and this message.

As lawmakers spend the final days of session prioritizing rushed redistricting maps and political power grabs, Dylan named what too many people in power refuse to.

We hope this message serves as a reminder to all of us: Now is the time to speak up. To tell the truth. To speak truth to power.

To use every single moment - and every microphone we are handed - to fight for communities over control, people over politics, and justice over power.

Thank you, Dylan, for reminding us what courage, moral clarity, and justice sounds like.

🚨South Carolina lawmakers are moving VERY QUICKLY to try and redraw Congressional district maps.

‼️Tomorrow (Tuesday, 5/12) is expected to be a fast-paced and critical day that will shape what comes next. It is not a coincidence that lawmakers stacked a subcommittee meeting and a full committee meeting immediately before the House gavels in tomorrow at Noon.

While we don't know for certain what will happen, the schedule alone makes clear how aggressively legislators are trying to move forward with new maps - whether by fast tracking legislation before session ends on Thursday, through a special session for redistricting, or both.

Be The Ones Advocacy & Community Organizing Director Dylan Gunnels testified during Friday’s House Judiciary Subcommittee hearing on H.5683 and H.5684 (redistricting our congressional districts and moving congressional primaries).

For over two hours, South Carolinians from across the state spoke out against these bills and against rushing redistricting forward at this moment - particularly in ways that could further disenfranchise and diminish the power of Black voters and communities of color.

Not a single person testified in support of the bills or redistricting. Not one.

This is bigger than politics.
Maps shape power. Representation. Resources. Whether communities are heard or erased.
