It’s the final lap for The Low Battery’s construction.

The city of Charleston has begun phase 4, the final phase, of a major construction project to rebuild and elevate the aging seawall along the Low Battery area. This work is expected to continue through April 2025.

As a result, Murray Blvd from King St to South Battery St has been fully closed to vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists. The stretch along White Point Gardens will remain closed for the duration of construction.

Once complete, the rebuilt Low Battery will match the height of the High Battery, making it more resilient against storm surge and sea level rise. The elevated walkway will also be wider, more accessible, and better integrated with White Point Gardens.

So while the construction will continue for some time, the end result will be a safer, more enjoyable Battery for residents and visitors to walk along our harborfront.
