For Carlos, recovery meant more than staying sober. It meant rebuilding a life that addiction had nearly taken away.
Anyone who has walked the road of recovery knows that sobriety is about more than saying no. It is about creating stability where chaos once existed. It is about showing up to treatment, attending support meetings, finding reliable transportation, securing housing, and learning how to navigate daily life again, one day at a time.
While living in sober housing, Carlos worked hard to maintain his recovery, but the challenges were real - access to treatment, support meetings, and basic necessities often determined whether progress continued or setbacks occurred.
That is when he connected with Goodwill's SUD-TEP program.
Through Goodwill's SUD-TEP program, Carlos found the support he had been missing. After being accepted into the program, he began working with Goodwill's Mission staff, who helped him secure employment and overcome barriers that had once made recovery feel out of reach. With a job, a support system, and a path forward, Carlos was able to focus on what mattered most: his recovery. He connected to treatment, attended NA meetings, and accessed resources that helped create stability during a critical stage of his journey. Just as important, he found a Goodwill team that welcomed him without judgment and stood beside him through the difficult days.
Today, he sees the program as more than a service. He sees it as a source of encouragement, guidance, and hope for individuals working to overcome addiction and build a better future.
Recovery is never accomplished alone.
For 75 years, Goodwill has helped individuals like Carlos overcome barriers and create pathways to stability, opportunity, and lasting change.
