According to CAWV's Chief Executive Officer, Jason Pizatella, West Virginia’s AI future doesn’t run through the cloud alone - it runs across our roads and bridges.

In a new op-ed for WV News, Mr. Pizatella highlights why the state’s roughly 7,000 bridges are critical to attracting investment, supporting workers and positioning West Virginia to compete in the growing AI and data center economy.

With more than 1,300 bridges currently rated in poor condition, investing in our infrastructure isn’t just about getting from one place to another. It’s about building the foundation for West Virginia’s jobs, businesses and economic future.

Our AI future depends on the infrastructure that connects us.

🚧 When the Jobsite Changes: Don’t Rely on Yesterday’s Routine

A familiar jobsite can feel predictable—but construction sites are constantly changing.

A route that was clear yesterday may be blocked today. Equipment may have moved. A new excavation may have opened. Traffic patterns may have changed. Another crew may be working nearby. Weather may have created new hazards.

Don’t let familiarity turn into complacency.

Before starting each shift, take a fresh look at the work area:

🔹 Look for new or changed conditions.
🔹 Identify hazards those changes may create.
🔹 Communicate changes to affected workers and crews.
🔹 Adjust the work plan, controls or access routes as needed.
🔹 Recheck conditions throughout the shift.

Ask yourself one simple question before starting a familiar task: What is different today?

A few minutes of awareness can help prevent an incident. Construction sites don’t stand still. Safety plans shouldn’t either.
