Applications for new Highway Historical Markers now are handled by the Department of Tourism through its Cooperative Advertising Program. Under a new process, the cost of new markers will be split between Tourism and the sponsor with the sponsor paying the cost of any future refurbishment or replacement that is necessary. Sponsors will be required to sign a MOU regarding future care. For information and the online application, visit: https://wvtourism.com/west-virginia-highway-historical-marker-program/

West Virginia Archives and History will continue to oversee the refurbishment and replacement of markers that were ordered prior to June 2025 as long as there is funding. To report damaged or missing older markers, go to https://archive.wvculture.org/history/markers/markers.html

I was not a member then, but I already knew Tim from college. While he was in college, Tim also worked part time at the West Virginia Archives and History Library. He was a good person.
