The Jefferson County Homeless Coalition (JCHC) is a non-profit corporation (able to receive tax-exempt donations under Section 501 (c) (3) of the IRS code) that was incorporated in the State of West Virginia to assist persons experiencing homelessness in Jefferson County. It aims to provide a continuum of care for those persons, from cold weather shelters at St. James Roman Catholic Church and Zi

on Episcopal Church, to a Hospitality Center at Charles Town Presbyterian Church, to a planned permanent building which will provide a range of services as well as shelter and food. At present, JCHC offers shelter for homeless people during the winter months, with affiliated churches and organizations providing meals. A daytime Hospitality Center at Charles Town Presbyterian Church offers a social connection, and daytime respite from life on the streets or in a car, as well as assistance with DHHR, obtaining West Virginia identification, seeking medical , dental and psychiatric care, and job placement.

Thanks everyone for all your continuous support. Next week is the important annual Point In Time count that is conducted in communities across the country to assess the number of individuals and families without shelter or at risk. Federal and state level funding depends on accurate reporting of our needs in Jefferson County.

JCHC is hosting the annual COME IN FROM THE COLD EVENT, which is designed to invite those we serve to come in for soup, sandwiches, health screenings, flu shots, and other goodies/giveaways.

We need your help in two ways: 1) we really need some volunteers to staff the event and help collect the data, and 2) we need to invite those who may be without shelter or at risk to come to the event and be included in the count.

The services for Carol Beattie's funeral will be at Charles Town Presbyterian Church on Friday September 19, 2014. There will be viewing at the church at 11:30 am, and the service will be at 1pm.

It is with very sad hearts that we share that Carol Beattie passed away yesterday morning. Carol was the heart and soul of Jefferson County Homeless Coalition and the Step Up Program. There is no one I know who worked more tirelessly to care for the needs of others, with wisdom and mercy. We will share service details as it becomes available.

"What goes around, comes around" fits quite nicely, here.

We are sad to pass on very bad news. Some of you may already know that our own Lisa Webb is the woman who was struck and killed by a train on Tuesday morning. Lisa was sometimes a guest of various services through the Homeless Coalition. We will post more information about a memorial service when we have details. Please keep her friends and family in your prayers.
