JCS will operate on a Non-Traditional Instruction Day (NTID) on Monday, February 2, 2026. Many roads and communities in Jefferson County are still covered with ice and snow, due to the below-freezing temperatures. Events, activities, and practices can resume on a voluntary basis after 3 pm.

🌟 It's time for another round of JCS All-Star Staff Recognitions! 🌟

During the January 12 BOE meeting, Principal Vandell of Harpers Ferry Middle School honored two Tiger team members for their dedication and service:

🐯 Tracey Bussard, Front Office Secretary – Ms. Bussard is always willing to step in and assist wherever needed. She brings a positive attitude to work each day and goes out of her way to support students, staff, and families. Mr. Vandell shared that she is always a great help to him personally and that her kindness and teamwork make a big difference in the school’s culture and morale.

🐯 Amanda Rinard, 8th Grade Math Teacher - Ms. Rinard took the initiative to mentor a new teacher this year and also made time to support a long-term substitute who stepped into the role mid-year. Mr. Vandell shared that she is the backbone of the 8th grade math department and excels at building strong connections with students and staff. Her leadership and dedication truly reflect the values of JCS.

🌟 Recognizing more JCS All-Star Staff! 🌟

At the January 12 JCBOE meeting, Principal Moss of Wildwood Middle School continued this year's school-based staff recognitions by honoring two incredible members of the Mustang community:

🐎 John Rouden, Custodian – Mr. Rouden takes pride in keeping the school bright, clean, and ready to go each day for students and staff. Ms. Moss shares that he always has a smile on his face, and his positive attitude is felt throughout the building. Mr. Rouden has built strong relationships with WMS students and staff, making him a valued and trusted member of the school community.

🐎 Allyson Masterson, 8th Grade Teacher - Ms. Masterson plays a key role in creating a culture of understanding at WMS. In addition to being a rock star in the classroom, she has a natural understanding of the middle school years and how to connect with students at that age. Ms. Moss said her empathy, care, and approach to teaching truly make a lasting difference for her students.

👀 Spotted: JCS bus operator Mirian Fernandes giving her bus a fresh shine during a field trip run to CWS and BRC! 👀

Following our first snow day of the year, Ms. Fernandes was seen taking extra care to make sure her bus was ready for the road. During a break between transporting the Harpers Ferry Middle School Jazz Band and Chamber Choir to perform for C.W. Shipley and Blue Ridge students, she cleaned the windows and mirrors to clear away snow, ice, and salt.

Ms. Fernandes shared that she wanted her bus to be in top shape so she could safely transport the students in her care. It was a simple but powerful reminder of the thoughtfulness and pride our transportation staff bring to their work every day.

🎁💙 Blue Ridge Campus joins with community partners to deliver holiday gifts for students! 💙🎁

BRC Communities in Schools Facilitator Katy Cox has been working behind the scenes with school staff and community partners to help provide holiday gifts for students at Blue Ridge Elementary and Blue Ridge Primary Schools. From churches and local organizations to individual donors, we’re grateful to the many people who've stepped up to contribute.

A special thank-you to West Virginia American Water for their generous donation. Ms. Cox is already in talks with the organization about future ways to support the BRC community, including winter gear donations, classroom lessons, field trip opportunities, and even a Mascot Monday visit.

Shoutout to Ms. Cox for leading this effort, and to everyone who's helped make it happen!

✨👏 Celebrating a proud moment for TALES as one of their own receives a special service award! 👏✨

Congratulations to Ms. Kathy Blue, a 1st grade teacher at T.A. Lowery Elementary School, on receiving the WVRA Service Award at this year's West Virginia Reading Association Conference. This recognition highlights her commitment to literacy and her dedication to students here at JCS.
