3rd graders at Rockford had their first Kids in the Kitchen lesson today! They learned about handwashing and got to make a delicious snack of a Breakfast Split. For some of the students this was their first experience cutting and trying a kiwi.

Fun fact: Did you know you can eat the skin of a kiwi? Students were able to give it a try and some found that they liked it.

1st graders at Washington Elementary learned about germs and handwashing by doing an activity with Glo Germ to see how well they wash their hands. Then they learned about the importance of eating the five food groups to stay healthy.

Grant Writing 101 Workshop Coming to Floyd County on December 2

Are you part of a nonprofit, local government, school, or community organization looking to strengthen your grant-writing skills? Join us for a Grant Writing 101 workshop!

This workshop is ideal for beginners or anyone looking for a refresher on the grant-writing process. Learn how to find funding opportunities, plan projects, and write successful grant applications.

Workshop Details:

Date: Wednesday, December 2, 2026
Time: 5:30–8:30 p.m.
Location: Floyd County Extension and Outreach Office, 112 N. Main St., Charles City, IA
Cost: Free! A light meal will be provided.

Presented by Lindsay Henderson, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Community Development Specialist, the workshop will explore public and private funding sources and offer practical tips for developing competitive grant applications.
