PAWS Humane Society See our adoptable pets at: pawscharlescity.com We are dedicated to preventing neglect, abuse and cruelty towards unwanted or abandoned animals. Some had to move.

The PAWS Humane Society (Floyd County Humane Society) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that works closely with the Charles City Police Department. We strive to encourage humane care and treatment for the animals we shelter and see that their interests and well-being are humanely protected by an aware and caring society. All the animals in our shelter are stray with a story we may never know. Some of them unwanted and have been abandoned, while still perfect in all the important ways. Many have been cast aside by their owners. Some owners didn’t have enough time. Some dogs were surrendered because they barked too much, others because they didn’t bark enough. We don’t always know the reason why these animals are brought to us and never claimed, but we’re here to show them that they’re worth saving. The one thing all these animals have in common is that each is hoping for you to bring them home and give them a loving new family. We hope you will help us help them.

Our Autumn brindle girl, 🍁 Maple, had a busy morning! She visited the KCHA News studio to hang out with Chris Berg & then went to Avenue of the Saints Animal Hospital - Charles City to be spayed! 💗

Maple got very vocal at the start of the interview & thought it was fun sitting in the chair at KCHA checking out things thru the window! She rides perfectly in the car. 🚗

Maple was the dog found tied to a traffic sign. The PD figured out her owner had died recently & she was being shuffled around then discarded. 😢

Maple has really warmed up & relaxed the last week. She is housebroken & very sweet. She’s approx. 3 yrs old & healthy. She grew up with other dogs but isn’t good with kitties.

If interested in meeting Maple, text PAWS at 641-228-0262 or complete our online adoption app at: pawscharlescity.com

Thank you everyone that made the dog jog happen this weekend! Thank you to all the sponsors and individuals that put so much effort into making this happen! Paws would not function without the volunteers! From our volunteer board members, our event volunteers, our daily cleaners at the shelter, our dog walkers, cat cuddlers, the shelter Manager and assistant manager and all the people in between. Of course we forgot to get a picture with all the volunteers from Saturday but here are just a few of the hard working people that made this event happen! We THANK YOU!
