All of our campers, aged 0-99, are individuals living with low vision or blindness. We offer them a safe, well supervised, and supportive environment. We also foster a close-knit community where everyone is accepted and where friendships flourish. This is evident in the fact that most of our campers return summer after summer, calling Highbrook Lodge their home away from home! We believe that summ

er camps provide a unique environment that promotes lasting positive effects for the lives of our campers, including the space to make and maintain friendships; relax and play; develop further independence; be outdoors; and be unplugged. At Highbrook, programs and activities are designed to assist our campers in their vision rehab process while providing a fun and safe outdoor environment. Highbrook Lodge is proud to be accredited by the American Camp Association. We also ensure that a licensed medical professional is always on-site. We provide well-balanced meals and our property is well maintained and equipped with accessible facilities, guide wire, and comfortable sleeping arrangements.

Our Story

Highbrook Lodge is a residential summer camp in Chardon, Ohio that serves people of all ages living with vision loss or blindness. Founded in 1928 by the Cleveland Sight Center, our 63 acre campus in the woods has provided a positive summer camp setting for thousands of children, families, and adults for over 90 summers.

The mission of Highbrook Lodge is to nurture and sustain a vibrant multi-generational camp community that enriches the lives of those living with vision loss or blindness. We aim to use the camp setting to empower our campers to foster meaningful relationships, increase levels of independence, take risks, and seek adventures within nature.

We envision a future where those living with vision loss or blindness know that they can always come together – summer after summer – to a tranquil and safe place that is bound by a diverse community, enthralling opportunities for play and fun, and an unwavering commitment to empowerment for all.

We believe in the power of camping and we hope you will see just how special our community is. Our campers have opportunities for adventure, skill building, risk taking, and personal development. They have a chance to grow within a community where one can socialize, feel safe and comfortable, and one where they can connect with others who experience vision loss and blindness. At camp they also experience the beauty of nature, while unplugging and recharging away from outside pressures. All of our campers also have the space to play, laugh, and create.
