Fifteen calls for CVAC and its volunteers this past week. Our calls included the following:
• Patient suspected of having a stroke
• Patient with back pain
• Evaluation of a child left in a car
• Patient injured in a fall
As temperatures rise, Chappaqua Volunteer Ambulance Corps wants to remind everyone to stay safe during the summer heat. Hot weather can quickly become dangerous, especially for children, older adults, and those with medical conditions. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are serious emergencies — but they can often be prevented. Here are a few simple tips to stay safe:
• Drink plenty of water throughout the day — don’t wait until you’re thirsty.
• Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and protect yourself from the sun.
• Stay indoors or in air-conditioned spaces during the hottest part of the day (usually 11 AM–4 PM).
• Take frequent breaks if working or exercising outside.
• Never leave children or pets in a parked car, even for a few minutes.
Know the warning signs of heat illness: dizziness, nausea, heavy sweating, confusion, rapid pulse, or fainting. If someone becomes confused, stops sweating, or loses consciousness, call 911 immediately. A little prevention goes a long way. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and stay safe this summer.
