📚 Summer Reading Challenge Alert , we have posted others

Looking for a fun way to keep your child reading this summer? The White House Summer Reading Challenge is back for 2026!

Students in Kindergarten through 8th grade can participate by reading 12 books over the summer and submitting their reading log. Every participant will receive a certificate & a special bookmark Plus, participants will be entered into a drawing for a chance to visit Washington, D.C. and The White House with a chaperone!

This year’s challenge also celebrates the 250th anniversary of America’s founding, making it a great opportunity to explore history through reading.

Just for fun, I added all of the kindergarten supplies to my Target cart to see what the total would be. These school supply boxes are a huge savings! Between the convenience and the cost difference, they’re definitely worth considering for back-to-school shopping.

☀️ SUMMER MEAL PICKUP INFORMATION: Begins June 1, 2026

Lexington-Richland School District Five is participating in the Summer Break Café Program this year.

The program will open to the community on June 1 and ends on July 24, 2026. Children through the age of 18 may participate. Parents/guardians must bring children to one of the sites below to enjoy free breakfast and/or lunch Monday-Thursday. Sites will not operate the week of June 29- July 4, 2026. Please call the Department of Student Nutrition at 803-476-8153 with any questions or concerns.

Open Site Information: Daily, free meals from Monday-Thursday

❗Lunch Only: 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

2️⃣ Irmo High
➡️Breakfast: 7:30 a.m.-8:00 a.m.

✅ Weekly Wednesday Meal Pick Up Site (Bulk Meals):
❗Preorder Required by 4:00 p.m. the Monday before the Wednesday pickup date.: www.tinyurl.com/26SummerMeals
➡️Full Details: If you can’t make it to one of the open sites each day, you can preorder meals for pickup at Spring Hill High School (11629 Broad River Road, Chapin) on Wednesdays from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Children must be present at time of pick up or parents can present the child’s report card or birth certificate onsite.

Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, s*x, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Meals will be provided on a first come, first serve basis.

Hello CES Eaglets! 🦅🌼

We would love your help supporting our CES Pollinator Garden and compost bins this summer! Families can sign up for one week to help us keep everything growing and healthy while school is out. 💚

Here’s what volunteers would do during their week:

🌱 Check on the garden 3 times during the week to make sure the automatic irrigation system is working.

💧 Water the potted plants around the garden using the hose or watering can. (We’ll send information about the water faucet key and who to contact if the irrigation system has a problem.)

🌿 Pull w**ds if you’d like and feel comfortable doing so — completely optional, but always appreciated! Feel free to text us a picture if you’re unsure whether something is a w**d. 😊

♻️ Spin the compost bin 3 times during the week. It’s located across the car line road near the edge of the woods. (Just keep an eye out for ants!)
