When women and girls have access to bathrooms and WaSH stations, they have access to more consistent education, improved psychological and physiological wellbeing, as well as greater autonomy over their life.
Pictured above is a WaSH station as well as a latrine at Bon Samaritain school. Two Mules for Haiti is working hard to support the distribution of WaSH stations, teach WaSH curriculum, and plans to help supply composting toilets to Bon Samaritain school. But we need help from people like you to make our plans a reality!
In rural Artibonite, 81.1% of households depend on the labor of women for gathering water. Women and girls above the age of 15 account for about 3.3 hours per week of collecting water, and girls below the age of 15 account for about 2.3 hours per week gathering water for their households. Their safety during the journey to and from their homes when collecting water is a significant concern. Additionally, many adolescent girls miss school, and at times even drop out entirely, due to the lack of access of proper care during their menstrual cycle.
Lack of access to clean water and bathrooms significantly impacts not only the physical wellbeing of women and girls, but psychologically and educationally as well. A donation from you to help support the distribution of WaSH stations as well as composting toilets would make a huge difference in the quality of life of women and girls in rural Haiti.
