We develop leaders!

We are thrilled to announce the publication of an article titled “Army Invests in Logisticians with Industry-Based Broadening Opportunity” in the Fall 2023 issue of the Army Sustainment Professional Bulletin. The theme of the Fall 2023 issue is Data-Driven Sustainment. Many organizations have benefitted from the analytical frameworks and tools acquired in IDB's Industry Based Broadening – Logistics (IB2 LOG) program to solve a problematic issue within their organization that may include increasing readiness, reducing costs, or improving performance.
What makes this program different from the others is that our participants conduct on-site visits with commercial industry companies during the two-week program. This is a true experiential learning opportunity. We currently have seats available for the 2024 IB2 LOG programs which are scheduled for April 21 – May 3, and August 4-16, in the Research Triangle Area of North Carolina.

Please feel free to share with your teammates and colleagues who could benefit from this educational opportunity.

We develop leaders!

Congratulations to the NDTA The Association for Global Logistics & Transportation and U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) on the success of their 2023 Fall Meeting. The IDB Team was pleased to participate this year. Our team included IDB President, LtGen William Faulkner, USMC (Ret), Mike Bogdahn, Vice President of Strategy and Business, Deneane Evelyn Stanley, Marketing Manager, and Susan Olson Merchant, Program Director. The meeting provided many opportunities for learning, growing, and networking. The IDB booth was bustling with excited alumni eager to share how their educational experience at IDB Programs impacted their careers both personally and professionally. We were also happy to catch up with some of our previous Executive Fellows, to include VADM William "Andy" Brown, USN (Ret), Gen Duncan J. McNabb, USAF (Ret), and Ms. Anne Bradley, CEO, Agility Defense & Gov't Services along with a host of other partners, proponents, associates, supporters, and future IDB Alumni.

The impact of this Meeting will continue to unfold over the next year and well into the future. Congratulations again to the NDTA and USTRANSCOM on another successful Fall Meeting.

We develop leaders!

It is always incredible to see how strong and impactful the IDB network is. Association of the United States Army - AUSA National annual meeting and exposition is a powerful reminder that our alumni are doing amazing work throughout U.S. Government, DoD, private sector, and beyond.

This past week, one of our Program Directors, Clark Streets, was busy meeting with many of our advocates, faculty, and alum, and paying close attention to the Army’s key priorities. As an organization whose mission is to support the DoD, we will take these priorities and build them into our cutting-edge curriculums to ensure that we are meeting the needs of the outstanding civilian and military leaders serving our Nation.

We develop leaders!

We have hit the midway point in our September 2023 Log21 course! Our participants have had the pleasure of hearing from Dr. Al Segars, Dr. Chris Bingham, Dr. Steve Walton, and Dr. Ben Freeman and their perspectives on the National & DoD budget, creative methods to remove bottlenecks that prevent ex*****on of goals, and critical thinking. These concepts have not only gotten our participants to shift their way of thinking, but collaborate with each other as well. We look forward to hearing from Mr. Jim Brunke and Dr. Anand Iyer to wrap up our final day of preparation for our participants’ presentations!

We develop leaders!

The IDB | Institute for Defense & Business (IDB) kicked off another Dense Urban Studies Program in New York City on Sunday, 9/10! Participants and esteemed guests were greeted at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, just below the Verrazano Bridge and lights of New York City, as they arrived for the 10th iteration of the Dense Urban Studies (DUS) Strategic Broadening Seminar (SBS). Clark Streets addressed the group comprised of Active Army, USMC, USAR, and Government Civilians from various functional areas across the DoD, as well as various VIP guests. Army COL (R) Patrick Mahaney, CEO of the National Center for Urban Operations (NCUO) and Senior Mentor for DUS also spoke to the group about the importance of understanding the complexities of megacities and urban operations.

Yesterday, Monday, 9/11, the group attended the Ground Zero Honor Cordon, a 9/11 memorial service at the site of the World Trade Center. Participants were able to honor those fallen and remember their legacy along with hundreds of other service members and civilians. The powerful day was capped off with a luncheon at the NYC Fire Museum where dozens joined together to honor the legacy of Ronald Paul Bucca, a New York City Fire Department Marshal who lost his life during the September 11 attacks in the collapse of the World Trade Center. He was the only fire marshal in the history of the New York City Fire Department to be killed in the line of duty.

The IDB is grateful to have been a part of such an important and emotional day of events, and will continue to pay respects to those lost on that tragic day in history.

We are looking forward to seeing this group grow through educational broadening and immersion in the urban environment over the next two weeks!

The four groups visited companies such as TE Connectivity in Greensboro, Walmart’s Regional Distribution Center in Hope Mills, Ahold Delhaize USA, parent company of Food Lion distribution center in Butner, and Blue Force Technologies in Morrisville. Our participants engaged with experts and practitioners from a variety of private sector companies and learned cutting edge best practices and the application of data to tackle complex logistics and sustainment challenges.
