At UNC Health, researchers like Andrea Bozoki, MD, are helping improve the quality of life for people facing a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease and other memory and cognitive disorders. Using innovative approaches like advanced neuroimaging, Dr. Bozoki is finding better ways to distinguish different types of dementia from each other. She is also conducting clinical trials to develop the next generation of therapeutics for Alzheimer’s Disease and first-generation treatments for microvascular and multi-factorial dementia.

With your help, our researchers can conduct more clinical trials with the potential to improve lives. Give today to support vital research. www.unchf.org/june-campaign

UNC Health is committed to helping mental health patients live their best lives through a range of programs, like Brushes with Life. This vital art program is a creative recovery therapy group for people in treatment. Through the creation of visual art, poetry, film and music, participants find healing and move toward recovery while promoting a broader understanding of the human side of mental illness.

Care like this is made possible through support of friends like you. Join us during Mental Health Awareness Month and your gifts will enable us to continue offering innovative programs, mental health service provider training and forward-thinking research. www.unchf.org/may-awareness

April is National Donate Life Month, a fitting time to raise awareness about the critical need for living organ donation. Living organ donors allow a patient to receive a transplant without the often long wait for a deceased donor. What’s more, living organ donations have a better chance of transplant success. UNC Hospitals are performing these procedures — and lives like Bill Reh’s are being saved as a result.

Last November, Bill, a retired CBS 17 meteorologist, received a living kidney donation from his wife, Shields. Surgeons at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill performed the successful procedure and within a few days, both Rehs were recovering at home.

Learn more about becoming a living kidney or liver donor today, and how you can help
save a life! https://www.unchf.org/donatealife

Minimally invasive techniques at UNC Hospitals mean you’ll have a faster healing time and less pain when you donate a kidney to help a loved one.

A gift to UNC School of Medicine helps empower trainees like Dr. John Riley—whose experience as a Special Forces medic is shaping groundbreaking trauma research that could prevent PTSD for service members and patients worldwide.

Riley's frontline medical experience allowed him to bring meaningful contributions to the design and implementation of the MASTER trial, helping ensure that its early‑intervention strategies are practical, effective and grounded in the realities of trauma care.
