UNC Collaborative for Maternal and Infant Health UNC CMIH aims to improve the health and care of birthing parents and infants in North Carolina

The UNC Collaborative for Maternal and Infant Health (CMIH) is a partnership between the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Pediatrics within the School of Medicine. CMIH aims to improve the health of women and infants by providing quality collaborative care, translating evidence-based strategies into practice, and developing new approaches to complex problems. CMIH benefits from a stron

g relationship with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Schools of Public Health and Social Work, as well as with the UNC Healthcare system, resulting in mutually beneficial clinical, community, and research efforts. CMIH has a proven record of implementing large scale projects to improve maternal and infant health, including the NC Perinatal Care Region IV Perinatal/Neonatal Outreach Coordination (PNOC) project, the ERASE Maternal Mortality initiative, the You Quit, Two Quit Perinatal To***co Cessation Quality Improvement Initiative, the NC Safe Sleep Campaign, and the NC Preterm Birth Prevention - 17P Project. The Center also provides national leadership on preconception and postpartum care. CMIH’s website, MomBaby.org, is a main source of information on improving maternal and infant outcomes in North Carolina. The site contains both provider and consumer information, including evidence-based clinical practice algorithms, patient education resources, and referral pathways for clinical services for high-risk mothers and infants.

Lung cancer is a devastating disease—but there are steps we can take to reduce risk.

At You Quit, Two Quit, the focus is on helping women and families break free from to***co and va**ng. Their resources highlight why quitting matters, especially for women:

- To***co and va**ng pose serious risks to women’s health, including exposure to harmful chemicals that affect both short- and long‑term wellbeing.
- Secondhand and thirdhand smoke put families—especially children—at risk, which is why You Quit Two Quit provides tools for creating smoke‑free environments.
- Their guides offer targeted support for pregnant and postpartum women, helping them quit and stay to***co‑free with practical tips and encouragement.

Quitting is powerful. Protecting yourself is powerful.
And taking steps today can save lives—including your own.
