Our favorite moment from the Community Dinner yard sign distribution happened when a young child - maybe 10 years old - came by our table and said, “that is in Arabic” as she looked at our Neighbors for Unity yard sign. Our neighbor Mary, said “yes," and asked her to tell her what it said. She spoke the word in Arabic, and Mary asked her if she could say what it meant. She held her arms around herself in a hug and said, “We are all together.” The girl was a member of 4 Syrian refugee families living in Durham. We distributed a sign to each family and wished them great success in their transition.
