Mental Health Awareness Month is over, but we were able to squeeze one more meaningful project into a program yesterday. Thank you to The Life Church RVA for giving some TLC to one of our homes and helping transform the outdoor area, creating a more welcoming space for the individuals we support.

As Frank Ford, Program Manager for Root and Rise, shared, the volunteers helped create "a safe space where they can sit, hangout, and peacefully enjoy the scenery." Their time, effort, and generosity have helped make the home feel even more comfortable and inviting for residents.

We're grateful for community partners like The Life Church RVA who help create spaces where individuals can relax, connect, and thrive.

As Mental Health Awareness Month may be coming to an end, CRi is highlighting the important intersection between mental health and intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Conditions such as PTSD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, and OCD can look different from person to person. Mental illness is not always visible, and it is often misunderstood. But with proper diagnosis, care, education, and support, individuals can build independence, strengthen self-care, and live meaningful lives.

At CRi, we believe asking for help is a sign of strength. Your gift helps provide compassionate, person-centered support for individuals with mental health needs and disabilities, helping them feel seen, valued, and included.

Mental Health Awareness Month may be ending, but the need for understanding and community support continues every day. Please consider making a general operating support gift to CRi today. πŸ’š

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is often associated with veterans, but it can affect anyone who has experienced or witnessed something traumatic.

According to the National Center for PTSD, about 6% of people in the U.S. will experience PTSD at some point in their lives.

PTSD can leave someone feeling on edge, disconnected, or stuck reliving moments others may never see. Awareness helps reduce stigma, lead with empathy, and remind people that support is available.

At CRi, we believe healing is possible, and no one should have to walk through it alone.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often misunderstood, and for many people, it can be an exhausting struggle that others may not always see.

The International OCD Foundation shares that it can take an average of 14 to 17 years from the start of OCD symptoms for someone to receive appropriate treatment.

That is why awareness matters. The more we understand OCD, the more we can help reduce stigma, lead with empathy, and make it easier for people to reach out for support.

At CRi, we believe no one should face mental health challenges alone. πŸ’š

Research shows that adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities experience depression at higher rates than the general population. This month it is important to highlight the need for accessible and inclusive mental health care. πŸ’šπŸ§‘

Schizophrenia is one of 5 common conditions for intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD).

Globally, about 24 million people live with schizophrenia, yet myths and stigma can make support even harder to find. Schizophrenia is not a β€œsplit personality,” and it is not something someone chooses. It is a serious mental health condition that affects how a person thinks, feels, and experiences the world.

With compassion, understanding, and the right support, people living with schizophrenia can still lead meaningful lives. πŸ’š
