Valluvan Tamil Academy VTA recently hosted a book sale fundraising event at Murugan Temple, organized by VTA kids to raise funds for VTA, a non-profit organization. Over the past three months, used and new books were collected from parents for this event. Beyond fundraising, VTA ensures that, in addition to Tamil education, children learn how to contribute to a non-profit and how to organize such events. The event was a great succes!

🌟 Tamil inclusion project kick off in Loudoun County Public School Curriculum 🌟

With blessings of Tamil Thai, northern Virginia Tamil community members met with Loudoun county School Board Chair (Algonkian District) Ms. April Chandler
and Ms. Kristen Gorczyk, Staff Aide
to discuss the inclusion of Tamil language in the county school curriculum.

We proudly presented 430 handwritten petitions from Loudoun County residents — a powerful testament to the depth of community support behind this effort.

We formally requested the county to include Tamil through either:
✅ A Dual Immersion Program, or
✅ The High School Bilingual Literacy Program

Loudoun County School Board Chair responded with genuine enthusiasm and offered multiple practical pathways to make Tamil language inclusion a reality in Loudoun schools.

📚 Based on our research, no U.S. public school currently offers Tamil as a built-in daily classroom language the way Spanish or French is taught. If Loudoun County moves forward, it will be the FIRST school district in the entire country to include Tamil in its core school curriculum — a moment that would make history for Tamil speakers across America.

தமிழ் தாயின் அருள் ஆசியுடன், வட வர்ஜீனியா தமிழ் சமூக உறுப்பினர்கள் ஒன்றிணைந்து ஒரு முக்கிய சந்திப்பை நடத்தினர் — லவுடன் கவுண்டி பள்ளி வாரியத் தலைவர் (அல்கான்கியன் மாவட்டம்) திருமதி. ஏப்ரில் சாண்ட்லர் மற்றும் திருமதி. கிரிஸ்டன் கோர்சிக், ஊழியர் உதவியாளர் ஆகியோரை சந்தித்து, லவுடன் கவுண்டி பள்ளி பாடத்திட்டத்தில் தமிழ் மொழியை சேர்க்க வலியுறுத்தினர்.
நாங்கள் லவுடன் கவுண்டி வாசிகளிடமிருந்து பெற்ற 430 இதயம் கனிந்த கையெழுத்து மனுக்களை பெருமையுடன் சமர்பித்தோம். ஒவ்வொரு கையெழுத்தும் நம் தமிழ் பாரம்பரியத்தை போற்றி பாதுகாக்க இந்த சமூகம் எவ்வளவு ஆழமாக அக்கறை கொண்டுள்ளது என்பதற்கான உயிரோட்டமான சான்றாகும்.
தமிழை சேர்ப்பதற்காக இரண்டு அர்த்தமுள்ள வழிகளை நாங்கள் முன்மொழிந்தோம்:

✅ ஒரு இரட்டை மொழி மூழ்கல் திட்டம் (Dual Immersion Program), அல்லது

✅ உயர்நிலைப் பள்ளி இருமொழி கல்வியறிவு திட்டம் (High School Bilingual Literacy Program)

Members of Valluvan Tamil Academy had a landmark meeting today with Fairfax County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid and Sully District School Board Supervisor Ms.Seema Dixit to discuss the inclusion of Tamil language in the county school curriculum.

வள்ளுவன் தமிழ் மையமும் பொங்கல் விழாவும்.
ஜனவரி 17 அன்று வள்ளுவன் தமிழ் மையத்தின் குடும்பத்தினர் அனைவரும் பொங்கல் விழாவை சீரும் சிறப்புமாக கொண்டாடி மகிழ்ந்தோம்.
காலை 10.00 மணி முதல் குடும்பம் குடும்பமாக அனைவரும் வந்து தங்கள் இல்ல திருமண விழா போல, கொண்டாடி மகிழ்ந்தார்கள். அனைவரும் தங்கள் வீட்டில் பொங்கல் , உணவு சமைத்து கொண்டு வந்து தன்னார்வலர்களிடம் கொடுக்க, தன்னார்வலர்கள் உணவை முறையாக பெற்றுக்கொண்டு , வந்திருந்த அனைவரையும் அமர வைத்து அவர்களுக்கு உணவு பரிமாறினார்கள். அருமையான இனிப்பான பொங்கலோடு நம் பாரம்பரிய உணவை உண்டு மகிழ்ந்தார்கள்.
அதன் தொடர்ச்சியாக வள்ளுவன் தமிழ் மையத்தின் குழந்தைகளின் தமிழ் கண்காட்சி படைப்புகளை ஆசிரியர்கள் மற்றும் தன்னார்வலர்கள் உதவியோடு , அனைவரும் கண்டு களிப்பதற்காக வைத்திருந்த விளக்கக்காட்சியை பெற்றோர்கள் கண்டு ஆனந்தம் அடைந்தார்கள்.
மதிய உணவிற்கு பிறகு அனைவரும் விரிவுரை கூடத்தில் ஒன்று கூடிய பின், குழந்தைகளின் தமிழ்த்தாய் வாழ்த்தோடு நிகழ்ச்சி தொடங்கியது, குழந்தைகளின் ஆடை அணிவகுப்பு கண்காட்சியின் மூலம் நம் தமிழ் தலைவர்களை நம் கண் முன் நிறுத்தினார்கள். அதன் பின் பெற்றோர்கள் பங்கேற்ற விவாத மேடை சிறப்பாக இருந்தது, அனைவரும் பங்கேற்று கருத்துக்களை பரிமாறிக்கொண்டார்கள், நகைச்சுவையும் சிந்திக்க தூண்டும் கருத்துக்களோடு நடைபெற்ற விவாத மேடையை தொடர்ந்து , குழந்தைகளின் விளம்பர வேளை நிகழ்ச்சி அரங்கேறியது, அனைவரும் பார்த்து மகிழ்ந்தார்கள்.
வள்ளுவன் தமிழ் மையத்தின் பயணத்தில் புதிய தொடக்கமாக , முன்னாள் மாணவர்களை ஒருங்கிணைத்து , விர்ஜினியா பகுதியில் இருக்கும் தமிழ் தொழில் முனைவோர்களை அழைத்து அவர்களை வள்ளுவன் தமிழ் மையம் சார்பில் கவுரவித்து , மாணவர்களுடன் உரையாட வைத்தது சிறப்பாக இருந்தது. வந்திருந்த சிறப்பு விருந்தினர்களான தொழில் முனைவோர்கள் இன்றைய தொழில்நுட்பம் மற்றும் பல துறை சார்ந்த கருத்துக்களை பகிர்ந்து கொண்டது முன்னாள் மற்றும் மேல்நிலை பள்ளி மாணவர்களுக்கும் , கல்லூரி செல்வதற்கு தயாராகி கொண்டிருக்கும் மாணவர்களுக்கு பயனுள்ளதாக இருந்தது. முன்னாள் மாணவர்களின் ஆர்வம் மற்றும் உரையாடலை பார்க்கும் போது வள்ளுவன் தமிழ் மையம் நாளை, வள்ளுவன் தமிழ் மையத்தில் கல்வி கற்ற மாணவ செல்வங்களின் வழிகாட்டுதலில் வள்ளுவன் தமிழ் மையத்தின் தமிழ் தொண்டு தொடர்ந்து கொண்டே இருக்கும் என்பது கண்கூடாக தெரிந்தது.
வள்ளுவன் தமிழ் மையத்தின் தலைமை குழுவில் முன்னாள் மாணவர்கள் இணைந்து வள்ளுவன் தமிழ் மையத்தை வெற்றிகரமாக எடுத்து செல்லும் தூரம் வெகு தொலைவில் இல்லை.

அன்புடையீர் வணக்கம்,

வள்ளுவன் தமிழ் மையத்தின் குடும்பத்தினர் அனைவருக்கும் பொங்கல் நல்வாழ்த்துகள்.

பொங்கல் திருநாளை சிறப்புடன் ஜனவரி 17, 2026 அன்று கொண்டாட வள்ளுவன் தமிழ் மையம் தயாராகி கொண்டிருக்கிறது. இதற்காக கடந்த 2 மாத காலமாக நம் தன்னார்வலர்கள் இணைந்து திட்டமிட்டு ஏற்பாடுகள் செய்து கொண்டு இருக்கிறார்கள். நாம் அனைவரும் கலந்து கொண்டு பொங்கல் விழாவை கொண்டாடுவோம்.

அன்றைய தினம் ,

கூட்டாஞ்சோறு(Pot Luck) -அறுசுவை உணவு , நம் பள்ளி குழந்தைகளின் தமிழ்க் கண்காட்சி , குழந்தைகள் மாறுவேட நிகழ்ச்சி, நீயா நானா(பெற்றோர்கள் மற்றும் குழந்தைகள்) - விவாத மேடை , விளம்பர வேளை (Adzap), தொழில் முனைவோருடன் சந்திப்பு மற்றும் உரையாடல் என்று நாள் முழுவதும் காலை 11 மணியிலிருந்து மாலை 5 மணி வரை பல நிகழ்வுகள் நடக்க இருக்கிறது.

பொங்கல் கொண்டாட்டம்,விருந்தோம்பல், நாம் பின்பற்றிய கலாச்சார உடை என்று அனைத்தையும் நம் குழந்தைகளுக்கு பகிர்ந்து , அனைவரும் இணைந்து பொங்கல் திருநாளை கொண்டாடி மகிழ்வோம்.

Mr. Jeyamohan’s “Stories of the True”: A Special Experience for VTA Students

During Jeyamohan’s visit to Washington, D.C., in November 2025, Students shared their reflections on Mr. Jeyamohan’s Stories of the True, the English translation of his well-known Tamil short story collection அறம் ( அறம் சிறுகதைத் தொகுப்பு). They also had the chance to ask him thoughtful questions about the themes and messages in the stories.

Students of Valluvan Tamil Academy had a wonderful opportunity to converse with writer Mr. Jeyamohan in Tamil. It was an inspiring and memorable moment for our children to meet such a distinguished literary figure and speak confidently in their heritage language. The kids felt proud, and everyone at the event was truly delighted.

We’re proud that our students, despite growing up in the USA, can speak Tamil so fluently—thanks to the dedication of our amazing teachers.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Jeyamohan for generously spending time with our students. A special thank-you to the committed teachers and volunteers of Valluvan Tamil Academy, whose continuous support and guidance make meaningful experiences like this possible. Their efforts play a vital role in nurturing our children’s Tamil language journey.

n this academic year, VTA has completed six weeks of its 16th year with more than 550 students! As always, parents, kids, volunteers, teachers, and leads are enthusiastically coming to Rocky Run Middle School both in the morning and afternoon sessions. It’s wonderful to see how eager the kids are to attend VTA — to learn and meet their friends.

One of the best things about VTA is our strong focus on safety. VTA always hires a police officer to ensure everyone’s safety, and they have been very supportive. We sincerely thank the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office for their continued help and cooperation.

Valluvan Tamil Maiyam (VTA) has been serving the Washington DC area for over 15 years, with a steadfast focus on passing the world’s classical language—Tamil—to the next generation. As part of this mission, the current board members recently met with former board members and leads to gain valuable insights and discuss ways to strengthen our processes as we move forward to achieve new milestones this year.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all board advisors and leads for their continued guidance and support. We truly appreciate your ongoing commitment to VTA, even after your children have graduated from the Tamil school. Your dedication continues to inspire us all.

VTA Board members, advisors, and teachers had the opportunity to meet Mr. Gopinath (Neeya Nana) during his visit to our area. We had a wonderful conversation about how our VTA kids’ Tamil knowledge can be applied in media and discussed several other topics. It was a great time despite his busy schedule. Thanks to everyone who joined!
