Channahon UMC Ultimate Frisbee

Channahon UMC Ultimate Frisbee Frisbee is life. No referees, no coaches, and the team is whoever shows up. Remember, Frisbee is life and the rest is just details... and God is in the details.

As the youth of Channahon UMC learn through this program, anything in life, the Bible, or the most confused parts of your heart can be worked out through team play together. This is the official page for the Ultimate Frisbee youth ministry of the Channahon United Methodist Church. We want to encourage the youth involved to bring others into our group, whether they are church members or not, becaus

e this unique sport has a way of bringing everyone together and uniting their spirits toward a common goal. This page will have announcements of upcoming Frisbee days, pictures from our events, postings from group members, and additional tidbits about life, God, and teamwork. (pretty sure He's in the Frisbee, too)

In case anyone was in doubt as to where our church stands, we believe what Jesus said about caring for the oppressed and welcoming the stranger...

We reaffirm our longstanding commitment to the sacred worth of every person and to the way of peace taught and embodied by Jesus. We stand against the separation of children from their families. We detest the inhumane, evil actions that are perpetuated by governmental authorities.

Today it's raining...

It's one of those odd rainy days that's still bright, and there's thunder, but you have no idea whether it's going to stay stormy or settle into a gentle rain that will stay all day. So, as someone who plays the game unless it's triple digits, single digits, or lightning, let me share some perspective:

Life cannot stop every time there is something inconvenient. True, if it's dangerous to carry on, you can wait it out a while, but a day like today would only bring a short break to wait until the storm part faded. Light, steady rain cools the skin, make the field a little muddy (which is the same challenge for everyone and also fun), and creates a break in the oppressive humidity which was driving us crazy scant moments ago. So, you can complain about something new, or you can accept the way in which nature chose to answer your prayer.

Don't always stop and hide every time the clouds decide to let go. Learn to dance in the rain. Besides, you were going home to take a shower later anyway :)

Don't let bad weather or low numbers stop you. You we're born to play, and now is the right time.

Frisbee is life to some people...
When the pandemic hit, many things in our life changed. One of those was frisbee. As we got a huge snowstorm this weekend, my first thought was still "I love this! We can do layouts and not get hurt!"
As I begin to teach my 14 year old daughter how to play frisbee (the serious way, not just how do I throw this thing), I try to impart that even if frisbee isn't life right now, life imitates frisbee. You cannot control the wind, of whether it rains or snows. But you control how you respond to the changes. Gauge the wind, alter your throw, and watch your target adjust as well.
Be safe, wear masks (which make breathing in cold weather easier :) at least for me) and ride out the storm. God threw a hammer. Just remember not to stop running until it hits the ground, because every moment before then is a chance to score.
