Education Foundation for African Children - EFFAC

Education Foundation for African Children - EFFAC EFFAC began in 2016 by Anthony Osei with distributing re-purposed laptops and bringing school supplies to communities in Togo.

Now a 501(c)(3), the foundation has built 3 classrooms, a computer lab, and provided tuition relief for 800 students. This organization was created by our Founder and President, Anthony Osei. Please read Anthony's story of how this became such a passion and a motivation to help others who grew up in similar situations. "Growing up in a very small village in Ghana and a little town in Togo, tossed

from one relative to another, many of whom I could not even describe the relationship that existed between myself and them. I am proud to have had the chance to meeting these individuals in my life. I acknowledge that I would never have been at the stage I am today if I had not received support from all these generous individuals and families. While poverty is still prominent, parents with low-incomes, children and children with disabilities to educational and technological opportunities that they would otherwise not be able to access. I have started helping my community in Africa since 2008, by collecting used computers and laptops from Concur and shipped them to Togo on my own expense. The purpose of this is to improve the educational environment for the children of underdeveloped nations, including but not limited to; young Togolese students who are eager to learn about computers, about the internet, about information systems, and who want to be able to improve their lives in whatever way possible by using information via the internet, but who have virtually no opportunity for any of this on their own. Some of these students have never seen or used a computer before. I am working hard to help provide these poor students opportunities to learn how to use a computer. My approach is comprehensive, from access to education to paving the way for success in the classroom and beyond. Every year three months before my trips to Africa, I buy school supplies, candies, cookies, and ship them before I arrive, then on my trips to Africa, I traveled to many villages to give away those materials to the poor students and schools in their communities and I hosted a meeting. This condition of the classrooms for the students and staff is not only in poor condition (see pictures below), but not inviting and/or welcoming. Students have no chairs to sit, no desk to lay their school materials on, the teachers have no desk to set their materials. It saddens our community that the future leaders of tomorrow have to get education in such poor circumstances. The purpose is for our students to go to school every day and get an education in a welcoming, positive, environment by all means necessary."

EFFAC has been busy during the pandemic! In spring 2020, a storm blew the roof off a three classroom building and ruined the concrete floor. EFFAC funded and oversaw the repairs, allowing students to return to classes under shelter in fall 2021. EFFAC funds tuition for 800 students, provides technology and internet access, and uniforms and shoes for the neediest students. Join us in providing opportunities for students at EFFAC.org.

Our Mission

Our mission is to create safe educational spaces with quality resources to provide students in disadvantaged, rural areas of Africa with the knowledge they need to transform their lives and communities.

Investing in education infrastructure is an achievable step in breaking the cycle of illiteracy, poverty and food security. Through work with local leaders and knowledge of the community, we help deliver safe, primary education services to over 800 rural students with an emphasis on gender parity, allowing girls to achieve their full potential.
