❤️ HELPING OTHERS ABOVE SELF! ❤️
With temperatures reaching 110° in the Phoenix area and Chandler, we are incredibly grateful for community partners who step up when our neighbors need help most.

A huge THANK YOU to Chandler Horizon Rotary Club for blessing The Salvation Army of Chandler with a full pallet of bottled water for our Heat Relief program! 💧☀️

During these extreme temperatures, something as simple as a bottle of cold water can make a tremendous difference. Through our Heat Relief efforts, we provide:
💧 Cold water
🥪 Sack lunches
🎒 Care sacks
🚿 Showers
🧺 Laundry services
These services offer much-needed respite, dignity, and care to people experiencing the dangers of extreme heat.

Chandler Horizon Rotary, thank you for living out your motto: “Service Above Self.” Your generosity is helping us bring Relief. Restoration. Hope. to our community!

Together, we can make a difference—one act of kindness at a time. ❤️

Today we had the honor of a presentation by our very own James DeVary. James and his wife Analaura own Senior Helpers of Gilbert, Chandler & Tempe.

Senior Helpers provides compassionate, trained non-medical caregivers who offer personalized in-home support. Whether care is needed in a private home, independent living, memory care, or assisted living community, their team is here to help. They assist with light housekeeping, medication reminders, personal and companion care, Alzheimer’s and dementia support, Parkinson’s care, and transportation, helping families feel confident that their loved ones are cared for with dignity and respect.

Senior Helpers is proud to be the first in-home care provider in the United States to be Age-Friendly Care at Home certified by Community Health Accreditation Partner (CHAP). Many of our members families have benefited from their extraordinary compassion and professionalism.

In addition to his role at Senior Helpers, James is a Financial Advisor, a Professional Money Manager, and a veteran, and brings valuable experience from his military service to his work in the senior care industry. He emphasizes enhancing the quality of life for seniors and advocates for veterans, ensuring they receive the support and resources they need.

Sharing our lives in Rotary is one of the highlights about being a part of a club...today's program demonstrated how the telling of our our stories each week (listed as "fines") impacts one another. Congratulations to Roger Morsch for winning our "Sinner of the Year" award...your stories make a difference. So does the $3,000plus dollars we raised in the telling of all of us! Kudos, Chandler Horizon!!!!

Our guest speaker, author Franklin Smith, a musician and corporate trainer, is the creator of HOPEiDONT Books, a series of interactive stories designed to help children better understand and manage their emotions.

His interactive children’s books teaches readers about processing anger and frustration, and how doing the right thing ultimately creates a sense of self-assurance and joy.

When he began working with a physician at a children’s hospital “everything clicked—I realized I had naturally woven SEL principles into the heart of the story.” He realized his stories aligned with what is known as social-emotional learning (SEL).

SEL is a process that focuses on helping children build healthy identities, recognize, understand and manage their emotions, while also building empathy, relationships and decision-making skills.

“When I began writing this book, I had never heard the term Social Emotional Learning (SEL). I was simply following my instincts as a storyteller and as someone who cares about how children experience and express their emotions.”

Then he met a physician at a children’s hospital and “everything clicked—I realized I had naturally woven SEL principles into the heart of the story.”

That framework focuses on helping children recognize, understand and manage their emotions, while also building empathy, relationships and decision-making skills.

Smith and his team have worked to refine the books into tools that can be used not just at home, but in classrooms and other settings. Each book includes interactive elements — such as coloring pages and activities — to reinforce the lessons in a hands-on way.
“We have an incredible illustrator who is part of the HOPEiDONT team: Mark Marderosian,” Smith said.

At their root, he added, “HOPEiDONT Books aren’t just stories – they’re tools for emotional development.”

“HOPEiDONT Books publishes three books per year, which gives educators in schools and in the home a fresh set of resources to choose from each year,” Smith said.
“Each book is created using the CASEL framework for social emotional learning that includes self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationships skills and responsible dec

Each student has their own 64-page book each quarter of the school year that serves as their personal social emotional learning journal.”

But no matter the subject, Smith said the goal remains the same: helping children understand what they’re feeling and giving them the confidence to handle it.

Good morning, CHRC!

Servant leadership is a philosophy that places the well-being of others at its core. This compassionate and empathetic approach screams “Rotarian” as it can inspire, empower, and lead to unprecedented success.

By prioritizing empathy, selflessness, empowerment, service, and stewardship, servant leaders create environments where everyone is included, thrives, and organizations prosper.

While the journey towards servant leadership may feel challenging, especially in smaller clubs like ours, the destination is one of sustainable success and fulfillment. Remember: We each are leaders, not just occupants of Wednesday morning chairs.
“You’ve Got This!”

In a world hungry for leaders who put people first, servant leadership can lead each Rotarian to rewarding highs in our lifelong commitment to “Service Above Self.”
