If you see a bird on the ground your first instinct is to help it. But before you act, take a minute to assess whether it really needs your help. In many cases the bird should be left alone. Baby birds, for example, may not be in danger at all. Most likely a parent is nearby supervising the youngster. For more information on injured birds go to https://desertriversaudubon.org/injured-birds/. Post questions in the comments and we'll do our best to help you out! Photo Credit: Mallard by Phil Fowler

Looking for a cool spot to do some birding this weekend? Ashurst Lake is one of the sites we learned about from Terri Simon at one of our recent Birds and Brews events. Look for crows, ravens, jays, woodpeckers and more at this spring fed natural lake in the pines. More info and directions at https://www.fs.usda.gov/r03/coconino/recreation/ashurst-lake.
