’Twas the night before Christmas, on prairie and plain,
Not a spark was stirring, not even a flame.
The drip torches were hung in the truck with great care,
In hopes that good weather soon would be there.

The grasses lay waiting, both little and tall,
For fire to renew them, to answer the call.
When out on the range there arose such a sight—
A PBA meeting wrapped up for the night.

With forecasts checked twice and burn plans in hand,
The members stood ready to steward the land.
They spoke of fine fuels and humidity right,
Of winds that would cooperate come morning light.

“Prescribed fire,” they said, “is a gift we can give—
To prairies and pastures so wildlife can live.
It tames woody encroachment, brings grasses back strong,
And keeps working rangelands healthy and long.”

The crew headed home then, boots dusty and worn,
Dreaming of blacklines and green-up by morn.
They knew that through PBAs, neighbors unite,
Sharing labor and knowledge to get fire done right.

So here’s to the burners, from pasture to plain,
Who light up the land—not for loss, but for gain.
May your winds be just right and your plans all be tight,
And a fire-safe Christmas to all, and to all a good night. 🔥🎄

Merry Christmas from the North Central Range Improvement Association! 🌲🔥🎅🏻🎄
