It's ! Let's throw it back to 1985 when clerical workers went on strike at Columbia University. They wanted improved benefits, wages, and to address pay discrimination for women and minorities. Clerical staff from Yale Univeristy and student orgnanizers stood in solidarity with the strikers. They were successful and negotiated a favorable contract!

Stories like these remind us of the power of labor organanizig and solidarity!

On Tuesday, the CFA hosted a panel of union and faculty leaders to discuss how unions are necessary to stand up to the attacks on higher education. From our co-president, Augustus Wood: "Essentially, there's been a push to take away funding sources and to attack professors, students, and staff members who share activist beliefs and engaged in protests...A large portion of our student population and our faculty population are international scholars, and they have been specifically targeted over the last year and a half with these kinds of assaults."

The last few years have seen dramatic shifts in many of the norms and opportunities throughout higher education.

Funding cuts
Attacks on academic freedom
Major changes to immigration policies that affect students and faculty.

We need a new approach. The best solution is collective action.

The Campus Faculty Association and our local AAUP chapter are sponsoring “Higher Education Under Attack,” a panel discussion and Q&A on October 13th from 3-5PM at the NCSA Auditorium.

Childcare will be provided with an RSVP. The presentation will be streamed live
