Good news!

Ride Illinois was honored to speak at yesterday’s press conference - convened by Illinois Secretary of State - on the topic of micromobility. There is a dire need for common sense legislation at the state level that curbs unsafe use while responsibly welcoming new mobility modes. We’re pleased to be a partner in crafting legislation centered on that worthwhile objective.

“For much of the past year, Ride Illinois has advocated for a clear distinction in state law between safe, legal, low-speed e-bikes, and e-motos – much faster vehicles that often look like e-bikes. Common-sense, balanced legislation—without adding strain on law enforcement—provides an effective and reasonable path forward. This approach will support communities of all sizes in Illinois as they curb unsafe use while responsibly welcoming new mobility modes.” – Dave Simmons, Executive Director of Ride Illinois

Secretary Giannoulias announced a new multi-pronged campaign – “Ride Safe, Ride Smart, Ride Ready” – combines public education, updated driver training and a push for modernized safety laws to keep pace with the fast-evolving micromobility industry. As e-bikes and similar devices become faster, heavier and more powerful, Illinois law has not kept up – putting lives at risk.

We commend Illinois Secretary of State, State Senator Ram Villivalam, and Representative Barbara Hernandez for their work to integrate new mobility modes while retaining a clear focus on public safety. Ride Illinois will continue to work with these leaders – plus Illinois High School & College Driver Education Association, Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, and other partners – to embrace new mobility modes while retaining a strong focus on public safety 👏🏿👏🏽👏🏻

👉 Expect many updates on this important topic during the spring legislative session in Springfield!

Hi everyone. Here is some advice on registering your bike so it’s easier to recover if it gets stolen.

Please make sure your bicycle is registered with the University’s bicycle registration system Anyone from the community can register.

If it is registered and stolen, please mark your bicycle as stolen on the Project 529 system.

If it was not registered, please register this bicycle on Project 529’s website as a free registration (https://project529.com/garage), include all the information that you can (including serial number) and mark it as stolen in the website.

Project 529 has a tie up with more than 500 local bike shops, local government, and law enforcement agencies across the US and Canada, so hopefully it will increase our chances of recovering your bike.

You should also reach out to the Bike Project of Urbana Champaign [email protected] and ask them to spread the word about your stolen bicycle.

Transportation demand managment represents and coordinates all campus modes of transportation with an emphasis on safety and sustainability. The department works cooperatively with a number of university and regional partners to integrate multiple transportation modes.
