Due to the popularity of the Night Pollinators event we held in June, we are repeating the event, this time with an expert entomologist, to reach more people. We will also explore a different location within Urbana, IL.

All are welcome to Meadowbrook Park on August 1, 2025, to enjoy the natural world at night! Meet Extension Educators Karla Griesbaum and Sreelakshmi Suresh at the Race Street Parking Lot at Meadowbrook Park (2808 S Race St., Urbana, IL) at 8:00 pm and set up a sheet lighting activity for when we return from our hike. The sheet will attract night pollinators such as moths and beetles that we can view and identify. We will also learn about how humans are affecting these underappreciated pollinators as we hike through the woods. Bring a flashlight and your favorite bug spray (we will also supply some). All ages are welcome; wear good hiking shoes and long pants.

Visit go.illinois.edu/nightpollinators2 for more information or to get registered!

In light of the developing concern of the COVID-19 virus, all large events (anticipating 50 or more attendees) should be postponed until further notice. This includes, but isn’t limited to equine garage sales, breakfasts, suppers, community Easter egg hunts, etc. As new information is available we will re-evaluate the status of planned 4-H programming, events and workshops.

Please use your best judgement, in regards to 4-H club meetings and other smaller group gatherings. Follow local public health guidelines to mitigate the spread of the virus. Where possible, consider postponing activities for at least the next two weeks.

We will continue to share updates as they are available. This will be a major topic of discussion throughout Illinois Extension and we appreciate your patience with this changing status.
