We are excited to share yet another Volunteer Favorite dog: Queen!

Queen has captured the hearts of dog socialization volunteers Olgica and Vlad.
The three of them have enjoyed many Doggie Day Out outings together and always have a wonderful time. 🐶🌳
Here is what they have to say about the regal Queen:

"Queen of Hearts
This doggie will steal your heart, we promise. Her genetic makeup is 99.99% angel and 0.01% dog (the remaining fraction accounted for by floppy ears, four legs, and a wiggly tail). She is sweet, loving, and friendly to everyone she meets, and at the same time a total goofball with a playful streak.
The best day of our week is the one we spend with this adorable lady at the park. Nothing beats her soft little licks, the way she rolls onto her back to invite some serious belly rubs, and the sincere, wide-eyed look she gives you while you're handing over a treat.
If we didn't already have five pets at home, she would have come home with us long ago. Please stop by to meet her and see for yourself just how precious our Queen of Hearts really is!"

Thank you so much, Olgica and Vlad, for making Queen's day so special every time you take her out. You mean the world to her, and to us! ❤️

And a huge thank-you to all of our incredible volunteers who give their time, love, and attention to the animals in our care. Whether you are taking a dog out for an adventure, spending time socializing, helping with kennel cleaning, or supporting the shelter in countless other ways, you make a difference every single day. We are so incredibly grateful for everything you do for the animals!

Ameren found his fur-ever home shortly after we posted Scott's volunteer favorite submission about him, so naturally, Scott has chosen a brand new volunteer favorite cat to share with everyone!
Scott has chosen Snoopy, who has been with CCHS for about 5 months. Here's what Scott has to say about the ever-wonderful Snoopy:

“Snoopy is an affectionate, gentle, and easygoing tuxedo cat with white mitts and booties. He craves interaction with people and will happily spend time on my lap and allow me to groom him. He wrestles with shoes and shoelaces and loves to play soccer with a small plastic ball.”

How fun! 😺❤ Thank you, Scott, for sharing what makes Snoopy so special, and for everything you do for the cats at CCHS.

Volunteer Favorite submissions truly make a difference and help animals get adopted. Our volunteers offer a unique and meaningful perspective on the animals in our care, and we love highlighting what makes each one special through your eyes.

If you are a volunteer with a favorite animal at CCHS, we would love to hear about it. Send your submission to Sarah at [email protected].

As always, our volunteers do incredibly important work. Thank you for being you!

Ameren came to CCHS as a stray during a power outage (hence his name!), and he’s been winning over staff and volunteers ever since. In particular, he’s captured the heart of Scott, one of our incredible Cat Socialization volunteers, who has chosen Ameren as his Volunteer Favorite cat. 😺

Here is what Scott has to say about this handsome gentleman:

"There’s a lot to love about Ameren. He’s always happy to see me and is eager to spend time together. Moreover, this little fella checks all the boxes for good looks: beautiful brown tabby stripes, striking golden eyes, and a solid, athletic body — he reminds me of a little jaguar. Last thing — Ameren seems comfortable and relaxed in just about any situation: he loves to play but will also hang out on my lap or ride around with me carrying him in my arms or on my shoulder.”

Thank you for spending so much time with Ameren, Scott! I’m sure hanging out with you makes his day a little brighter. 😊☀️

And thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who dedicate their time to getting to know the animals at CCHS. We appreciate you SO much! ❤

Nothing beats a walk in the park on a beautiful day, especially with our amazing volunteers. ❤☀️

Romeo and Dipper enjoyed a relaxing stroll this morning and are now patiently waiting for their forever families to find them! In the meantime, our volunteers will make sure they get plenty of treats, love, playtime, and walks. 🐾

Whether or not you can give in these last few days of June, sharing this opportunity to double a donor's impact is a huge help to the shelter! You never know who you might inspire to give, simply by sharing the opportunity. And coming from you, someone passionate about pets in our care (and who can see the direct impact of the staff and the building's resources on the animal residents) it could mean even more!

Please share our post with the match challenge wherever, or to whoever you can. Thank you so much for all that you do!

RC and Quill say, "We need your help!"

A generous donor walked into the shelter the other day with an offer. They have offered to match the next $20,000 in donations dollar for dollar. We only have two days left to raise those funds. We are halfway to our goal, but we need your help to reach the finish line.

Visit cuhumane.org to make a gift before June ends and double your impact!

It’s a beautiful day, perfect for snapping a photo of our wonderful dog walking volunteer, Stephanie, and her Volunteer Favorite dog, Esha! Esha is a spry 9-year-old lady who has been with CCHS for a little over three months. She LOVES spending time with Stephanie both at the shelter and at nearby parks. Here’s what Stephanie has to say about her:

"Esha, or Lady E as I like to call her, is an amazing doggo! I never would have guessed her age. She's a sassy senior with plenty to offer anyone lucky enough to adopt her. She's always happy to see me and will snuggle once she gets her wiggles out and realizes I won't stop trying. There's also a level of independence and confidence that I love. Every time I leave her, her eyes tell me she belongs in a home, and she absolutely deserves that kind of security in her senior years."

We love highlighting our volunteers and the animals that make their day! Thank you, Stephanie, for spending so much time with "Lady E" and all the other pups at CCHS. We appreciate you so much! ❤🐕
We are so grateful for all of our amazing volunteers and everything you do for the animals each and every day!

Check out our latest volunteer favorite dog - Rocket!
Michelle, one of our wonderful dog walking volunteers, has spent time with Rocket both here at the shelter and at nearby parks! Here is what she has to say about this handsome boy:

"Rocket lives up to his name in every way. Rocket has a lot of energy, and he will tell you all about it (loudly), when you swing by his kennel. But don’t let this deceive you, the moment he is outside, he leaves his bark behind and is ready to explore…you just need to be able to keep up with him 😝 Rocket is the shy discerning type, as I have gotten to know him, I can see that he finds the big wide world a little unnerving and is glad to have you by his side. Now I feel lucky to get a little wiggle and a lick goodbye when we go back into the shelter. Whilst he may not give his love away freely, I can imagine how happy it would make him to have a friend who will help him build his confidence and get him out for long runs. If this is you, I think this understated sweet boy will be worth it."

Thank you, Michelle, for sharing these wonderful words about Rocket and for spending so much time with him and the rest of the dogs at CCHS.

We’re excited to share our newest Volunteer Favorite submission, Scott, and his current favorite, Red!

Red has been with CCHS for 148 days and is currently our longest-term feline resident on the adoption floor.

Here is what Scott has to say about his buddy Red:

"Red is a laid-back and soulful ex-tomcat. He makes eye contact with his half-closed eyes and will knead your shoulder or arm, whatever is convenient, with his enormous brown-tabby paws. Red is always happy to see me and will joyfully hop down from a nap in one of his perches, stretch out, and greet me with an extensive vocabulary of meows, trills, and chirps."

Thank you, Scott, for sharing what makes Red so special, and for spending so much time with him!
