From the bottom of our hearts here at the Jelani Day Foundation, we want to humbly thank each and every single individual that attended our event. It was often mentioned that the Day Family exemplify strength and resilience but if it were not for God and you all, our ever-growing village, we would not have made it this far. It is because of all of you that we are able to continue Jelani’s legacy and ensure that no other family has to endure what we have been through.

isn’t just a fight that belongs to the Day Family, this is all of our fight. Jelani could have been your son, your brother, and it is up to us to continue fighting because something happened to Jelani. Someone murdered Jelani and we need to know why. So please continue standing and fight with us because we have only just begun making noise. We need answers, we need accountability, we need .

5 years later

5 years ago today, Jelani Day was last seen alive. He was getting ready for his clinicals, walking the Illinois State University campus. He then was seen at the Beyond Hello Dispensary and after pulling off from the parking lot and driving past a Dollar General store, the rest is a mystery. Time hasn’t eased the pain, it’s only made us fight harder. For 5 long years we have had to endure, we’ve had to suffer, we’ve had to pray even harder and be put in positions we’ve never imagined but we’re not stopping. We are fighting harder than we ever have before because Jelani’s life matters. Jelani was needed on this Earth and justice isn’t a thing that is earned, it is Jelani’s God given right to have. By God’s unwavering strength and mercy we will continue this fight until justice is served. We love you Jelani Jesse Javontae Day.

Thank you ABC 7 Chicago for standing beside us and allowing platform to be a spotlight for Jelani Day. His story will never be forgotten and as siblings we will do whatever we can to make sure Jelani gets the justice he deserves.

Standing with me are the siblings of Jelani Day, the 25 year old Black man from Illinois State University who went missing and never was found… his car was found in Peru, IL., a sundown town. His body, in the Illinois river.

This family never received answers on what happened to Jelani. And none of us will let the world forget! 💯
