We appreciate you, Grant Champions! Tag yourself, follow and share our page to help us celebrate all the good happening between our schools and community.

A huge thank-you to the partners and donors who make these opportunities possible. Together, we’re building brighter classrooms and stronger connections across CU.

Here’s to our Grant Champions, teachers and school staff. Have a fabulous 2026–27 school year! 🎉📚

Weather may have pushed the clap‑in back a week, but the community, staff, drumline, cheerleaders and plenty of smiling faces showed up in full force this morning to welcome Champaign Central High School students back in great fashion. We even spotted our YES student Makayla kicking off her year with confidence!!

As the school year begins, Champaign Unit 4 Schools is thrilled to welcome Dr. Ponce as our new Superintendent, bringing fresh vision, energy, and heart to the district.

Also, a HUGE pat on the back to Dan Casillas for stepping up as Interim Superintendent and keeping things steady through the transition. Your leadership helped set the stage for a strong start to the year!

This summer, the Champaign Unit 4 Schools Youth Employment Services (YES) program helped bring a new sculpture to life that is now proudly installed at the intersection of University Ave. and Neil St in Downtown Champaign.

With a generous donation from Chet and Dianne Fall combined with a powerful collaboration between City of Champaign - Municipal Government, 40 North 88 West , Champaign Park District , local artist Greg Stallmeyer, Centennial High School welding instructor Chris Storm, and 13 talented YES students, the sculpture INFINITE POSSIBILITIES now stands as a symbol of creativity, growth, and community connection.

"The sculpture is entitled INFINITE POSSIBILITIES. You can see the work is a series of steel cubes nested within one another, each positioned at its own unique angle. Beginning small at the center with a small red cube that represents the heart, and expanding outward. The cubes represent both individual development and our interconnected journey through life. While each cube maintains its own distinct orientation, symbolizing personal identity and individual paths, they remain fundamentally connected, impossible to separate one from another. The 'infinite possibilities' we each carry aren’t diminished by connection. They’re amplified by it. They also suggest how our futures expand when we build on foundations of community and collaboration." - Mandy Danowitz

The YES program supported over 200 Unit 4 students, helping them develop work ethic, creativity, collaboration, and purpose JUST this summer!

Next time you’re downtown, stop by and experience INFINITE POSSIBILITIES for yourself. ♾️

Kicked off the school year with Urbana School District #116 Opening Day festivities! As always, spirits were high with fantastic performances by the marching band, cheerleaders, color guard and choir, even joined by a few of last year’s graduates who apparently couldn’t stay away.

The morning also brought the bittersweet news that Dr. Jennifer Ivory-Tatum will retire at the end of this school year. After decades of pouring her heart and exceptional leadership into public education across both C-U districts, there is so much to be grateful for, and thankfully, one more year to celebrate her!

Thank you to every teacher and staff member for choosing USD116. Our attitude overflows with gratitude for each and every one of you. Here’s to a phenomenal 2026–2027! 🎉🧡🖤

Today, Champaign Unit 4 Schools brought back Convocation for the first time in years and the energy at State Farm Center was electric! Hundreds of teachers, staff and administrators came together to hear from new Superintendent Dr. Geovanny Ponce, along with students, educators, admin and community members. Every school showed up in FULL FORCE! Huge shoutout to the DJs, combined cheer squad and football players who brought the energy and made it feel like the celebration our educators deserve.

There was so much pride, excitement and school spirit in that room today. Here’s to a magnificent 2026–2027 school year, Unit 4! 💙
