Prairielands Council is responsible for two districts, Prairie Fire and Many Trails. And we do it by having fun! The council is based in Champaign, Illinois.

Located in Champaign, IL, the council is made up of nine counties in East Central Illinois and Western Indiana Prairielands Council, BSA provides character development and value-based leadership training to youth in nine counties of east-central Illinois and west-central Indiana. We currently offer over 2,800 youth a program of responsible fun and adventure:

Training them in citizenship, service, and leadership;
Instilling lifetime values;
Developing ethical character as expressed in the Scout Oath and Law. It is our mission to serve our communities and families with a quality, values-based program.

This coming Thursday, October 15, 2026, we will hold our Whitney M. Young Fundraising Awards Banquet at the Holiday Inn, 101 Trade Center Drive, Champaign, Illinois. Cocktails will be at 6:00 and program starts at 6:30 p.m. The semi-annual fundraiser highlight the achievements of Scoutreach, and honor four outstanding leaders who support Scouting in our community with the Whitney M. Young Service Award.

This year, The Whitney M. Young Service Award will be presented to Mrs. Jessie Knight, Dr. Napoleon Knight, Mr. Joe Stovall, and Busey Bank. Special Guest Speaker is the 2003 Miss America Erica Harold, with Kelly Finley as emcee!

Congratulations to Prairielands Council's newest Eagle Scout Jack White. Jack is a Scout in Troop 1 chartered to the Rotary Club of Champaign. Jack completed a gaga ball pit for his former elementary school, Unity East Elementary in Philo.

Last weekend Illini Lodge #55 attended the Section G7 Order of the Arrow, BSA Conclave. The lodge was awarded the Lodge of the Conclave award and was the Pickleball champions.

Congratulations to our very own Charlie M. for being elected Section Vice Chief and Henry M. for being elected Section Secretary.

Very proud of our Lodge and their accomplishments!

Congratulations to Prairielands Council's newest Eagle Scout Colin B. Colin is a Scout in Troop 40 from St. Joseph. He is a senior at St Joe Ogden High School and a member of the Cross Country Team.

The second weekend of the Prairielands Council Wood Badge Course finished this past weekend! Almost 30 leaders from around our Council spent 2 weekends becoming better leaders for their Scout and units. Conductor Lang asked them about their tickets and assured them, the staff was out there to help them.

Thanks to Scoutmaster Josh Kittle for pulling together a great staff of over 15 people to help provide the training to our leaders.

Wood Badge is a great training course for adult leaders. If you have the availability to take the course you won't regret it!

Join us for Fall Camporee next weekend, October 9-11 at Camp Drake.

Saturday 9am-4pm various shooting events such as: Precision B.B. Ri**es, 12-gauge Trap, Cowboy Action, Muzzle-loading Ri**es, Muzzle-loading Sh***un, Atlatls and .22cal Schutzenfest Challenge.

Scouts BSA Troops, Venturing Crews, and Arrow of Light Scouts are welcome to attend.

Check in October 9th at the Dining Hall at 6PM.

Cracker-barrel @ 8pm Weiner-schnitzel (Hotdogs), Root-beer, Chips & Movie

Cost is $20 which will cover the patch,all shooting fees, and cracker barrel!

30 Members of Illini Lodge #55 set off for the Section G7 Order of the Arrow, BSA Conclave at Camp Lewallen this weekend. Thanks to the Tracy B, Gabrielle M, and Alyx P for volunteering and driving for the weekend.

Earlier this week Maleek from Troop 1310 unveiled his Eagle Scout Project. He completed a buddy bench at his former elementary school, Robeson Elementary in Champaign.

While all of his merit badges and project are completed, he is awaiting his Eagle Board of Review.

Congratulations to Prairielands Council's newest Eagle Scout Angel W. Angel is a Scout in Troop 9 that meets at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Angel's Eagle Scout project included building squirrel boxes for UIUC Wildlife Clinic.
