New Edition in Paperback: "American Misfit: In Search of Reality", Matthew Motyka.

American Misfit: In Search of Reality interweaves personal experience with key historical events from the past half-century, showing how they shape individual consciousness. Grounded in Paul Ricoeur’s theory of narrative—which sees storytelling as essential to understanding our world—Matthew Motyka recounts his multicultural journey. Raised in communist Poland, he spent his twenties in France before moving to the United States. Though he thrives as an immigrant, he confronts a lingering question: Why does America, generous to outsiders, resist being fully loved?

In search of answers, Motyka turns to European intellectuals such as Simone Weil, Leszek Kołakowski, Tzvetan Todorov, and Alain Finkielkraut, whose reflections on uprootedness, immigration, and alienation illuminate his own experience. This juxtaposition of personal story and historical context reveals the profound influence of global events on individual identity—and the difficulty of ever fully belonging to one’s adopted home.

New Edition in Paperback: "Party Food: A Partisan History of Food & Farming Policy in America", Rebecca Harris.

“Voting with your fork” is a common mantra for those concerned with food politics. However, real voting requires one to choose between Democrats and Republicans—and most food voters do not know the partisan history of food politics. Party Food is written for farmers and foodies who want to understand the political history of food policy. Harris is a political scientist who is also a commercial farmer. Her expertise in both fields offers fresh, professional insight into the lay of the land in American food politics. In Party Food, Harris unpacks the political foundations of contemporary farm policy and expertly explains the “team sport” of partisan politics as it plays out in the food politics landscape. In Party Food, she introduces the Democratic and Republican Heroes (and Villains!) of food politics, and offers an accessible insight into each political party’s policy “menu” and team play in Presidential and Congressional politics. In this way, Party Food offers foodies and farmers a food politics primer on Democrats & Republicans and fills an important gap in the food politics discussion.

Congratulations to Jungeun Kim and Woosik Yu, recipients of the 2025 International Award for Excellence from The International Journal of Interdisciplinary Global Studies for their article, “An Analysis of Economic Governance Under the Abe Administration and Its Global Implications.”

Their work offers a nuanced examination of Abenomics and the economic governance strategies pursued under Japan’s Abe Administration. Through an analysis of monetary expansion, fiscal stimulus, and structural reform, the article critically explores the promises and limitations of state-led economic intervention in periods of prolonged stagnation.

Moving beyond headline indicators such as rising stock prices, the authors interrogate deeper questions surrounding inflation expectations, consumer behavior, negative interest rates, and the long-term sustainability of fiscal policy. The article highlights the complexities of balancing short-term economic recovery with structural and societal transformation.

Importantly, the study situates Japan’s experience within a broader global context, offering valuable insights for policymakers and scholars navigating post-crisis economic governance worldwide. By reflecting on the relationship between market forces, state intervention, and social consensus, the article contributes meaningfully to ongoing debates about economic resilience and sustainable growth in the twenty-first century.

👏 Congratulations to the authors on this well-deserved recognition.
