This photo with my Friend John was taken last year, November, when he moved into his new apartment, no longer homeless!
Happy to share, John has signed a new lease for another year of housing!
This past year he had both success and challenges.
First the success, john has elevated his self reliance to providing me with a list of needed groceries, cleaning supplies, and clothing, no longer simply accepting items provided. He continues to remember that he has needed monthly mental health appointments. He has had no contact with law enforcement, nor does he have any court obligations.
A previous property ban was lifted since Johns fiances and banking are handled by the same institution that previously had him removed (my favorite piece to all of this!).
On the downside, my role as his payee was briefly interrupted when his maternal mom did an end around, became his payee, and stole over $3,000 (3 months) of his disability payments. The funds will not be replaced, life goes on, I continue to be his payee.
The other challenge was with Johns housing, he likes to start his day at 2:00 am, walking around his unit that early was a challenge for the occupant that lived directly beneath him. After some legal back and forth, the solution was found in relocating John to a different part of the same building. Ideally, a tiny house, not an apartment building would be the best solution for John. Growing pains, well worth the efforts to keep John housed!
Very Grateful that in addition to John, our other two former homeless have also resigned new leases, and continue to be housed, no longer a burden on resources, and functioning as members of society.
A very huge thank you to everyone who has had a role, and continues to have a role in helping to keep these three people housed and secure! No way to do this alone, without the assistance from others, their housing collapses, and they are back on the streets.
