Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO)

Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) The People Behind Animal Feed and Pet Food AAFCO is the go-to resource for all U.S. animal feed regulatory information.

The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) is a voluntary membership association of local, state and federal agencies. Our membership includes regulatory officials and those in the animal and pet feed industry that collaborate and communicate with one another in order to promote a safe feed supply through unified system-based regulation, feed ingredients standards and laboratory op

erations. We provide a forum for feed regulatory officials to come together and create model guidance to ensure that the regulation of animal feeds is as uniform as possible from state to state. Members and stakeholders collaborate to develop and provide ingredient definitions, label and feed ingredient standards and laboratory guidance in order to promote a safe feed supply. AAFCO also provides resources for the animal feed and pet food industries and feed regulatory information for livestock production farmers and ranchers, pet owners, veterinarians and other animal professionals.

Collaboration is one of the strongest tools we have for protecting animal food safety.

This week, AAFCO Executive Director, Austin Therrell, participated in a multi-state tabletop exercise hosted by the South Carolina Department of Agriculture’s Rapid Response Team. The exercise focused on a simulated Salmonella outbreak involving animal and environmental exposure in a dry food/feed environment.

Bringing together state regulators, industry partners, and food safety experts, the exercise highlighted the importance of preparedness, transparency, and strong public-private partnerships. AAFCO is proud to work alongside our members and partners to strengthen response efforts and help safeguard the animal food supply.

June is Pet Preparedness Month and it's a reminder that emergency planning should include every member of the family, including pets. 🐾

Whether facing wildfires, hurricanes, severe storms, or unexpected evacuations, having a plan in place can help keep pets safe during a disaster.

A few ways to prepare:
✔️ Have a plan so you know exactly what to do and where to go
✔️ Store medications and veterinary records in an easy-to-access place
✔️ Make sure collars, tags, and microchip information are up to date
✔️ Build a pet emergency kit with bowls, leashes, carriers, and comfort items

Prepared pets are safer pets. Take time this month to create or update your emergency plan.

This Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. We also remember the service animals who stood beside them with courage, loyalty, and devotion in the most difficult conditions, and those who were lost in the line of duty.

Their partnership reflects a bond built on trust and sacrifice, and their service will not be forgotten.
