On Sunday, May 30th, the Chambers Volunteer Fire Department participated in a live house fire training under the direction of the Nebraska State Fire Marshal Training Division. Training started at 7:00 AM and concluded around 2:00 PM.

This type of hands-on training is a vital part of preparing our firefighters for real-life emergency situations. Live fire training gives members valuable experience in fire attack, search and rescue, ventilation, and overall firefighting operations in a controlled environment. House fires like this can easily reach temperatures of 600°F or more inside, making this training extremely important for firefighter and public safety alike.

A training like this takes many hands and many hours of preparation behind the scenes before the first fire is ever lit. From paperwork and planning to pumper operators, EMTs checking firefighter vitals, and firefighters in full bunker gear and SCBAs entering the structure, every role is important in making the training both successful and safe.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Marlin Metschke for allowing us to use the old Earl David house across from the park entrance on Main Street for this valuable training opportunity.

We would also like to thank Linda Hubel and Crystal Walters for providing food for the firefighters and instructors throughout the day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Please enjoy the pictures below. We will add drone photos at a later date!

Chambers Volunteer Fire Department responded with Trucks 6, 7, & 8.

While we received some much-needed rain, we are still not out of this fire danger. Please continue using extreme caution.

Fire danger will be elevated across much of Nebraska today, especially in western and central portions of the state where “high” to “very high” rangeland fire danger is expected this afternoon. Nebraska alone accounts for roughly half of all wildfires in the US so far this year, making today a good reminder to use extra caution with any outdoor burning. If you have been or plan on doing pile burning, now is the time to stay vigilant. And if you have burned recently, continue checking those piles to make sure they are completely out. Dry, windy conditions can quickly reignite lingering heat.

A big thank you to Green Acres for opening up on a Sunday evening so we could get trucks fueled back up.

We are beyond thankful for the rain that has fallen tonight!

P.S. If the photos appear grainy, chalk it up to us not being very tech savvy.
