At approximately 9:58 AM on Monday, April 20th, the Chambers Volunteer Fire Department was paged to a fire 3 miles south of Chambers Corner on Hwy 281, at the intersection of Hwy 281 and 851st Avenue.

The call was for a ditch fire on the west side of the road that was spreading into a nearby field. The field consisted of government wetlands with tall native grasses, creating conditions for rapid fire spread.

Upon arrival, Chambers Fire requested Law Enforcement for traffic control. Crews worked the scene until approximately 1:00 PM. CVFD responded with Trucks 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, and 9.

Due to the location and proximity to the highway, traffic created a serious safety hazard. Despite emergency lights, fire apparatus, and personnel actively directing traffic, numerous vehicles failed to slow downβ€”or even stop. Several drivers swerved around emergency vehicles while visibility was reduced due to wind and smoke, putting both responders and the public at risk.

🚨 THIS NEEDS TO BE SAID CLEARLY: 🚨
When you approach an emergency scene, SLOW DOWN OR STOP.

A few minutes of delay is far better than causing an accidentβ€”or worse, injuring someone. Your actions on the roadway directly impact the safety of first responders and fellow motorists.

Please help us do our job safely.

At approximately 3:28 PM on April 18, the Chambers Volunteer Fire Department was paged to a pasture fire at 84330 Dumas Ave, just into Garfield County.

Due to the location of the fire, 911 Dispatch & Region 26 Emergency Management received the call and also paged out the Bartlett and Burwell Volunteer Fire Department. Upon arrival, Chambers Fire was able to get the fire under control.

Chambers Fire responded with Trucks 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12. We greatly appreciate Bartlett and Burwell for their assistance. Chambers Fire remained on scene until approximately 6:00 PM.

As we head into this coming week, conditions are ripe for fast-moving fires. If you see smoke, please call 911.

Stay safe, and pray for much-needed moisture!

We’re thankful for the much-needed moisture, but the statewide burn ban is still in effect through April 10th! πŸ”₯🚫
