The second annual CHS Scholarthon took place on April 8. Planned and led by CHS seniors, the event featured interviews with students about their achievements, goals, and extracurricular involvement. CHS alumni also participated, sharing their experiences and the paths they pursued after graduating.

The Class of 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣6️⃣ raised an impressive $12,502‼️ Half of the funds will be placed into an endowed scholarship fund, ensuring continued support for CHS graduates for generations to come.

To further grow the fund, the John Blum family generously contributed $2,500 to the Class of 2026, $1,000 to the Class of 2027, and $6,500 directly to the endowment. Thank you! ❤️

Participating students will receive approximately $150 each to support their post-secondary plans.

📣Shout out to Midstate Communications for helping set up telephone lines for the event! We appreciate YOU!

The Oacoma, Chamberlain, Pukwana (OCP) Community Foundation is excited to announce the recipients of its first round of community grants.

The amount awarded was determined by the balance of the endowed fund as of January 1, 2025. OCP Chair Sheena Larsen said, “The first year OCP had $2,400 to allocate to our communities.” She added, “Based on our bylaws, we were formed to help nonprofit entities with projects that will be long-lasting for the community.”

Grant awards were announced Saturday, March 7, during the foundation’s second annual Virtual Horse Races fundraising event.

Children’s Ark, a nonprofit childcare facility, received $600 to assist with an upcoming remodeling project. The OCP board presented the check to Children’s Ark board members who were present at the event. Pictured are Jeff Tveit, OCP Vice Chair; Sheena Larsen, OCP Chair; Bradee Pazour, OCP Director; Alyson Lynch, Ark Director, Aran Anderson, Ark President, Cassidy Snow, Ark Treasurer, and Shana Hloucha, Ark Secretary; along with OCP Secretary Melissa Hutmacher and OCP Treasurer Chantell Kriel.

South Dakota Dinosaur Park received $800 to support its current expansion project. A representative from the organization was unable to attend the event to accept the award.

The Chamberlain-Oacoma Gun Club received $1,000 to upgrade its shooting range by adding a s***t shooting facility. Pictured receiving the check at the Night at the Races event are Pazour, Larsen, Gun Club representative Cash Fees, Tveit, Kriel, and Hutmacher.

The OCP Community Foundation has seen significant growth in the past year. The fund increased by $80,000, which will allow for larger grant awards in future cycles. “After Saturday night’s event, we are close to $160,000 in our fund,” Larsen said. “We need to raise $40,000 more this year to reach our goal and receive $50,000 from the South Dakota Community Foundation.” The OCP Community Foundation was established to support projects that create lasting benefits for the Oacoma, Chamberlain, and Pukwana communities. Congratulations to this year’s grant recipients.
