I KNOW ya'll hate when I do this...
Polls close at 8pm today.
By choosing to NOT cast your ballot you subject yourself and everyone else to the rule of the overzealous, misinformed minority.
Our parishwide voter turnout hasn't been higher than 20% in years. Literally from presidential elections to levee protection... no one takes the 5 minutes needsd to go vote.
Be heard or be herd. The choice is yours.

I don't often make political posts unless they are related to myself or a relative, but I feel compelled to make this one.
There are been a lot of times that an election was referred to as "pivotal" for a community when that urgency was exaggerated. For St. Bernard, during this general election, that word could not be more appropriate.
Our parish is facing a period of massive challenges and unique opportunites that could alter the course of its current tranjectory of growth, improvement, and prosperity. It is not something that should be left in the hands of someone without impeccable personal integrity, multi-level govermental experience, unmatched work ethic, and the support of leaders and community memebers that have put in the work and paved the way for the quality of life we now enjoy.
I have spent a great deal of time behind the scenes during this campaign cycle and from background research, polling data, resident testimonials, and personal experinece... I KNOW Louis Pomes is the only candidate to lead our parish into this next chapter. If you supported my personal campaign to move our parish in the right direction in 2019, Pomes for President is the choice to make that happen.

My Dad, Earl Dauterive, has given countless hours of his time and talents to this community since he was a teenager, including serving for over 20 years on an unpaid government advisory board that focused on better planning and zoning for St. Bernard. Electing him to represent District B would mean a Councilman with REAL experience and dedication would have a seat at the table.

Another great weekend of going door to door with my grandchildren and meeting the residents of District B. Thank you to those who support our efforts by placing signs on your property. I am proud to be a member of this community. My wife and I decided to make a life here in Chalmette, to raise our 4 children here, and now they are raising all 8 of our grandchildren here in St. Bernard Parish. My promise to the people of this parish is to always work hard to improve our quality of life so that future generations can be proud to live and work here as well.

With just a few hours left for qualifying I feel compelled to share this message to anyone who needs to hear it... do it.
Throw your hat in the ring.
Take the leap of faith.
Follow your dreams.
Stand up for what you believe in.
Do it.

Personally, I will be taking a break from my own political aspirations this cycle. The campaign life isn't easy, and neither is the prize you get for winning... a full-time job with a part-time salary and more headaches than working in a hammer factory. Anyone who has travelled that path knows the toll a campaign takes on you physically, mentally, and financially. And on those closest to you, in my case my husband and 4 children. My oldest is home for one last year before she heads off to college, time that is more precious to me than anything. Which means I currently have 3 teenagers and 1 pr***en under roof that are looking for the guidance, love, and support of their mom, undistracted by the constant needs of a community facing major challenges like the LIT, unresolved post-K blight, and the growing pains of a new administration.
I wish all of the candidates who have chosen to embark on this journey the best in their endeavors, anyone who willing invites the scrutiny, criticism, and challenges of public service makes an admirable choice to do so. My promise to the people of my district and this parish is that, though I will to be in a position of political power these next 4 years, I will not give up on doing what I can through my volunteer work, economic development advocacy, and community service to continue making St. Bernard a place we can be proud to live work and enjoy.

Incredible to think that just over 100 years ago women "lacked the expertise and mental capacity to offer a useful opinion about political issues". The 19th Amendment which brought an end to the women's suffrage movement was ratified by only one vote after a young Tennessee representative received a note from his mother. Today we hold office on every level of government, but are still having to smash glass ceilings and break down gender barriers.
