VFW Post 3258 Chalfont, PA Public Page

VFW Post 3258 Chalfont, PA Public Page We honor and assist Veterans and the Community through service and support. Chalfont Post 3258 was established May 15, 1996 with 31 Charter Members.

One of the original charter members, Jim Dunn, tells the following story of a Post with two beginnings…

Years ago, the original Chalfont VFW Post was disbanded due to lack of members. No one seems to remember the post number, but one of the 3 former post’s flags still stands proudly at the Chalfont Borough Hall. Our current VFW Post 3258 was conceived when two members from District came to Jim’s

house in the Spring of 1996, and asked if he would be interested in starting up a new post in Chalfont. Jim was Intrigued by their request, so District members asked him to attend a meeting in the Chalfont Borough Hall to discuss it. At first, they gave him the famous line, “you wouldn't have to do anything, just show up”. But, Jim recalls the discussion quickly turned to all of the particulars of starting up a new post, including the different staff positions and responsibilities. By the end of the meeting, Jim was the Quartermaster for the newly formed post, one of the two positions he held for the next 20 years. Currently, Chalfont Post 3258 continues to flourish and grow under the new Post Commander, Dave Dantzler. As of July 2023, the Post staff and members now meet at the New Britain Township building on Park Ave in Chalfont, the 3rd Wednesday of every month beginning at 7:00pm.

Members of Post 3258 were joined today by scouts of Troop 36 and 133, who helped us replace flags and markers on Veteran graves at St. John Neumann cemetery in preparation for Memorial Day next week. After a short ceremony led by Comrade Noel Pelletier, the scouts jumped in and helped us honor our local Veterans who are no longer with us. Thanks to the scouts, their leaders, and the parents for helping us today!

On Saturday, May 2, 2026, members of the Chalfont VFW Post 3258 gathered to participate in the VFW’s National Day of Service. Locally, the event holds a deeper meaning, known as the Mike Witanek Memorial Day of Service.

The contingent of Post members focused their efforts on a "Spring Cleanup" of the Veterans Memorial located behind the New Britain Township building, adjacent to North Branch Park. The site, which stands as a quiet tribute to those who served, was refreshed by the hands of fellow veterans in a morning of communal labor and remembrance.

The day is named in honor of Mike Witanek, a beloved and highly active member of Post 3258. A Vietnam veteran who served with the Navy Seabees, Mike was the embodiment of the Seabee motto, "Can Do." Mike was well-known throughout the community for his boundless generosity and his refusal to ignore a stranger. Whether through his work with the St. Vincent de Paul Society or his regular reports at VFW meetings regarding individuals who needed a helping hand, Mike was always looking for ways to serve others.
"Mike never met a stranger," Post members recalled. "He would almost always come to a meeting and let us know about an individual he met that needed help. He was always looking for a way to help others in need."

In addition to his community outreach, Mike was a constant supporter of the Post, frequently donating items to be raffled off to raise funds for Post initiatives and provide free items for the membership to enjoy.

While the "Spring Cleanup" significantly improved the appearance of the North Branch Park memorial, the event served a greater purpose: ensuring that Mike Witanek’s spirit of service remains a permanent fixture in the community.
Though he is greatly missed by his fellow veterans and the neighbors he served, the Mike Witanek Memorial Day of Service ensures he will never be forgotten—especially every May, when the flowers begin to bloom at the memorial he so dearly respected.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (April 7, 2026) – The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) is set to conclude its 79th annual Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen youth scholarship competitions this Saturday, April 11, with its highly-anticipated, annual Parade of Winners ceremony. The event is being hosted in a city that serves as the “birthplace of America” and at a venue deeply rooted in American history and the founding of our nation, the Union League of Philadelphia.

Selman Memorial Scholarship - a life-changing $35,000 award. In total, more than $176,000 in national scholarships will be presented during the ceremony.

The move to the Union League of Philadelphia marks a significant milestone for the program. Founded in 1862 as a patriotic society to support the union and the policies of Abraham Lincoln, the League provides a fitting backdrop for students who have spent the year reflecting on this year’s theme: “How Are You Showing Patriotism and Support for Our Country?”

The ceremony coincides with the 52 VFW Department (state) winners’ participation in Founding Forward’s Spirit of America Youth Leadership experience at Valley Forge. The trip, awarded to every VFW Department (state) winner, is made possible through the generous support of Twisted X.

Effective immediately, VA is halting enforcement of the interim final rule, Evaluative Rating: Impact of Medication.

The VFW demands the VA rescind a new rule evaluating disability ratings based on medication use, warning it unfairly reduces benefits and bypasses essential judicial oversight for veterans.
