Dawes County Historical Museum The Dawes County Historical Museum. The new Marcus Cain building contains inventions of local farmer Marcus Cain. Food, animals, fun for the whole family!

The Dawes County Historical Museum includes a log house, toy room, barber shop in Carpenter's Cove building dedicated to Dean Carpenter, barn, 1890s schoolhouse, pioneer church and C&NW caboose. The FOURTH SUNDAY in SEPTEMBER is always HISTORY IN ACTION DAY. Wheat grinding, milk separating, wool spinning, corn shelling, potato digging have all been features over the years.

The Dawes County Historical Museum is OPEN!!! So many activities in addition to exhibits. Mark your calendars now for the first program this summer. Holocaust Educator, Mary Gould Traphagan will be furnishing this presentation on May 31st at 1:30 at the Museum. Mary has done extensive research on this part of History. A free will offering will be available to help support the Museum.

Fun facts about March. Historical Turning Point: March used to be the first month of the year before the calendar was updated.
The Ides of March: March 15th was considered a deadline for settling debts in the Roman calendar and is famous as the day Julius Caesar was assassinated.
Inventions: The first phone call was made by Alexander Graham Bell on March 10, 1876, and the board game Monopoly was invented on March 7, 1933. There you go? Information you probably didn't need, but reading the March edition of the Courier is a must. Enjoy.
