Frijoles Fire update: Join fire officials for a public meeting today at 6:00 p.m.

SANTA FE, N.M., Aug. 14, 2026—The U.S. Forest Service and California Interagency Incident Management Team organized a public meeting about the Frijoles Fire for today, Aug. 14, at 6:00 p.m.

Join fire officials for the latest incident update, current conditions, and community information, online through the Santa Fe National Forest page, or in person at the McCracken Gym at McCurdy Ministries in Española.

We are excited to announce the upcoming Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new Cerrillos Senior and Community Center and Turquoise Trail Fire Station #3 on August 20 at 1:30PM. Come out and help celebrate the long-awaited opening. NMED announces an upcoming rulemaking to adopt new rule 20.2.51 NMAC, Methane Abatement. The rule would establish a methane super-emitter program to reduce large, uncontrolled releases of natural gas that can go unidentified and unabated for extended periods. See the full announcement at

This is provided by the New Mexico Environment Department and we are passing it on to you as a public service. While methane emissions are not significant within the San Marcos Association area of advocacy, atmospheric impacts to air quality affect all of us.

The Santa Fe County Board of County Commissioners approved a letter to the U.S. Secretary of the Interior opposing any change in the protected status of Chaco Culture National Park. The letter states, in part, “Greater Chaco deserves permanent, durable protection, not repeated threats of rollback that force Tribal Nations and the public to keep refighting a battle that was already won through years of good-faith process.” Feedback from the public is welcome. Santa Fe County Issues Safety Notice for Annual Walk to El Santuario de Chimayó -

The bee mascot demontsrates safe walking to El Santuario de Chimayó by wearing reflective clothing and a sun hat, and carrying water and supplies. The bee is properly disposing of waste, something public safety personnel are reminding all walkers to do. Don't bee a litter bug--leave no trace!
