The Youth and Adolescent Shelter in Addis Ababa Where Lives Were Lost
Meseret Media has been consistently reporting on the ongoing youth roundups taking place in Addis Ababa, various regional cities, and rural areas.
According to new information obtained by Meseret Media , the shelter camp shown in the image, located behind the Kaliti Training Water Development in Addis Ababa, is reportedly admitting adolescents as young as 15 years old on a regular basis.
Street vendors, shoe shiners, Highland item collectors, street beggars, day laborers, etc. are being apprehended on the streets and taken away without any questions.
"The shelter receives youth and adolescents rounded up from all sub-cities daily, with up to 5 buses arriving at night," said an eyewitness, adding that those who entered earlier are transferred to another location after 5 days.
"From what MM claims to hear, those who can afford it pay money to be released, while others are taken to military camps," another source told us, stating that they witnessed young people dying and bodies being removed from the camp.
"There's no such thing as bedding or food. We've seen healthy people who entered leave as corpses," said an individual who was detained in this shelter and released through family efforts.
"Many are crying as they speak. Getting a letter to secure release involves extreme difficulties and demands for money," he added, explaining the situation further.
"A mother of twins who left her children with a neighbor to sell coffee was rounded up. Later, her husband brought the twin children to the administration demanding either the return of their mother or for them to take the children," a close source who requested anonymity told Meseret Media, describing the situation.
Even the government-run Ethiopian Human Rights Commission recently reported in its findings that many people, including children, were forcibly detained "to join the defense forces," and in some areas of Oromia Region, families were compelled to pay large sums of money to secure the release of those detained in this manner.

In an interview with Ethio News today, former Ethiopian Foreign Minister Mr. Gedu Andargachew criticized Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, describing him as "ruthless" and driven by deep-seated grudges. Mr.Gedu accused the Prosperity Party as lead by Abiy Ahmed of orchestrating conflicts in Tigray and Amhara, including kidnappings and wars. He also alleged that Abiy's desire for personal credit, coupled with limited experience, is leading to the country's destruction. Gedu emphasized that labeling Abiy as cruel is insufficient to capture his "bloodthirsty" nature.

Open Letter to the US Congress by the Ethiopian Diaspora Colation on the on going War in Amhara region:
Dear US Congress Members,
We are writing to bring your urgent attention to the unfolding humanitarian crisis in the Amhara region of Ethiopia. Recent reports from credible international media and humanitarian organizations paint a devastating picture of widespread hunger, displacement, and violence. Immediate intervention is required to prevent further suffering and avert a catastrophic humanitarian disaster.
Widespread Hunger and Food Insecurity
The Amhara region is grappling with severe food shortages. Families in areas like North Wello report immense difficulties in accessing basic nutrition. Many households have resorted to desperate measures, such as consuming wild plants to survive, as humanitarian aid has not reached the affected populations. Children and vulnerable groups are particularly at risk of malnutrition, with dire consequences for their health and well-being.
Delayed and Inadequate Humanitarian Assistance
According to reports from VOA Amharic and the BBC, food aid distribution has been minimal and slow, leaving hundreds of thousands of people in critical need. Logistical challenges, mismanagement, and political roadblocks have significantly hindered the delivery of life-saving assistance. Rural communities are especially affected, with reports of widespread hunger and desperation among displaced populations.
Collapse of Healthcare Services
The healthcare system in the Amhara region is on the brink of collapse. Hospitals and clinics lack essential medical supplies, rendering them unable to treat malnourished individuals or those injured in ongoing violence. Medical facilities report that they are unable to provide even basic care, exacerbating the suffering of affected communities.
Ongoing Violence and Displacement
The situation is further aggravated by continuous drone strikes and indiscriminate attacks, which have killed and injured many civilians, contributing to mass displacement. Schools remain closed, and the social fabric of many communities has been torn apart. Civilians, including women and children, live in constant fear for their lives.
The Need for International Action
While some international organizations have expressed concern, the scale of intervention remains inadequate to address the severity of the crisis. The people of the Amhara region need robust and immediate support from the global community. The United States, as a leader in humanitarian response, must take decisive action to ensure aid reaches those in need and advocate for the protection of civilians.
Requested Actions
I urge you to:
1. Advocate for increased humanitarian aid to the Amhara region and ensure that logistical and political barriers to aid delivery are removed.
2. Call for an independent investigation into the ongoing violence and human rights abuses in the region.
3. Press for a ceasefire and peaceful resolution to the conflict to protect civilians and restore stability.
4. Collaborate with international organizations and allies to provide urgent medical and nutritional assistance to affected populations.
The Amhara people are facing an existential crisis. Their plight demands immediate attention and action. As a nation that upholds human rights and humanitarian values, the United States has a moral obligation to intervene and support those who are suffering.
Thank you for your attention to this critical issue. I am available to provide additional information or connect you with individuals and organizations working on the ground in Ethiopia. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of countless individuals who are in desperate need of our help.
Sincerely,
The Ethiopian Diaspora coalition for Justice in the US

The saying "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" suggests that events in one place remain confined there. However, considering the luxurious lifestyles many are leading in Addis Ababa and the ongoing war and starvation in the Amhara region, we can assert that "What is happening in the Amhara region won't stay in the Amhara region." The severe humanitarian crisis in Amhara, with millions facing hunger and displacement, demands global attention and action. The international community, including the UN, World Bank, IMF, EU, U.S. State Department, and U.S. Congress, must recognize that the repercussions of this crisis extend beyond regional borders. Addressing the needs of the Amhara people is not only a moral imperative but also essential for regional stability and global peace.
