We love getting updates from our adopters. This is little Angel, now Daisy. Daisy came to our rescue with Sophie and Destiny who spent their entire lives living outside 24/7 and used for breeding. Angel was adopted by a lovely couple who just adore her, and we are sharing their sentiments.

She is the perfect companion and we often remark about how blessed to have her.
I really think God sent her to us and are so very grateful to you for letting us have her!

We have more sad news to share this morning. We were informed yesterday that one of our adopted dogs, Peanut, crossed over the rainbow bridge yesterday. While Peanut did have heart disease, his passing was unexpected. Many of you probably recognize Peanut, as he was a frequent visitor here and we were his home away from home. Peanut was a tiny little spitfire and a part of our family for many years. We know his mom and dad are devastated and our hearts go out to them. We are grateful to them for giving Peanut such a wonderful life these past several years. Rest in peace, precious boy, we are going to miss you terribly.

We are so sad to learn about the passing of one of our adopted dogs, Billy Bob. Billy Bob was adopted back in 2012 and he passed away at the age of 16 1/2. We are so grateful to his adopted family who gave Billy Bob such a wonderful home all these years. They also adopted two other dogs from us, Petey and Baxter. Our hearts go out to them during this difficult time. Rest easy sweet Billy Bob, we know you will be deeply missed.

Chloe was such a good girl at the vet yesterday.

We’ve been concerned because she’s lost some weight recently, and then a few days ago she started having nosebleeds. The good news is that her bloodwork came back excellent, and her x-rays did not show anything obvious in her sinuses or head.

The vet explained that without a CT scan, there is no way to completely rule out every possible cause of the nosebleeds, including things that may not show up on x-rays. A CT scan would cost around $3,000, and at nearly 15 years old, our treatment options would be very limited regardless of the findings.

For now, we’re following our vet’s recommendations and starting Chloe on a round of prednisone while monitoring her closely. At nearly 15 years old, our focus is on keeping her comfortable and maintaining her quality of life.

The good news is that the nosebleeds have already stopped, which we’re very happy about. She’s eating well, staying active, and acting like herself. We will continue to monitor her weight and keep a close eye on any changes, but right now Chloe is happy, comfortable, and enjoying life!

Today we will be sending sweet Olly off to spend some time with a wonderful trainer who we know and trust.

We have loved fostering Olly for our friends at HART since February, and he has become part of our family. He is such a special boy, and while we are going to miss him terribly, we know he needs a little more structure and guidance to help him thrive.

Olly deserves a family of his own, and this is the next step in helping him get there.

Be a good boy, Olly. We love you and we’ll miss you!

This was Trixie about a year and a half ago, 3 years after her thyroid cancer diagnosis. She did so well for many years, and for that we are grateful.

Our hearts are broken as we made the very difficult decision to help Trixie cross the Rainbow Bridge. No matter how prepared you think you are, and even when you know it’s coming, it’s never easy.

As many of you know, Trixie was diagnosed with thyroid cancer about five years ago. At the time, we were told she probably had only a couple of years, but in true Trixie fashion, she proved everyone wrong.

Trixie was one of our OGs. She came to us about 14 years ago after being turned into a shelter with her litter of puppies. The dad was surrendered with them too. Another rescue pulled the puppies, but left Trixie and dad behind, so we took them both.

Dad found a home pretty quickly, but Trixie was a little more complicated. She arrived with Parvo and almost didn’t make it. She was also a biter, which made it even more difficult to find a home for her. It took her a long time to trust people, but once she did, we knew she would stay with us forever.

Trixie became part of the heart of Healing Hearts. She was a good girl, never caused any trouble, and quietly made her place here.

We are going to miss her terribly. She was my little food beggar and the house is going to feel a little emptier without her.

It’s always a wonderful thing when rescues and animal lovers come together for a dog in need.

Shelby’s story began in Texas, when a woman out walking found a tiny newborn puppy lying near a sidewalk in 100° weather. That little puppy was taken to our friend Stacey, who immediately began bottle feeding her and giving her the care she needed. Stacey named her Shelby, and from that moment on, Shelby was safe.

Stacey gave Shelby the best start she could, but her hope was always to find her a loving forever home. When Shelby was a healthy, happy 7-month-old puppy and Stacey was preparing to move out of state, we knew we wanted to help both of them.

Because Healing Hearts focuses on senior and hospice dogs, we reached out to our friends at HART, who kindly agreed to take Shelby into their rescue. Shelby was fostered by one of our wonderful fosters, spayed, vetted, and we are happy to report that yesterday, she went to her forever home.

We are so grateful to Stacey for saving Shelby and giving her the right start in life, HART for accepting her, our foster for seeing her through her surgery and keeping her safe, and everyone who helped Shelby get the happy ending she deserved. ❤️
