VTV Care VTV CARE is a non-profit movement for survivors of mass shootings

The holidays can be fun for some but difficult to handle for others. In moments of unimaginable pain, no one should have to feel alone. At VTVCare, we listen to and stand beside survivors as they continue their journey long after the headlines fade. Each story we encounter is deeply human — not just about surviving, but about finding understanding, dignity, and healing at one’s own pace.

Through our VTVCare program, we create a compassionate space where shared experience becomes a source of comfort and strength. VTVCare supports the lasting emotional impact that can remain when others have moved on. Every donation helps restore hope, and a sense of stability.

Healing is not a path meant to be walked alone. Connect with us, listen with care, and help us build a community rooted in empathy and support — at www.VTVCare.org.

Wishing you a peaceful holiday season.

Created by the families of the largest mass shooting on a college campus in US history, 32 National Campus Safety Initiative™ (32 NCSI™) is a landmark program offered through a partnership between NASPA and the VTV Family Outreach Foundation that empowers college and university campus communities to make more informed decisions about campus safety. Developed by a team of leading experts, 32 NCSI is a robust self-assessment tool that colleges and universities can use to conduct an objective analysis of a full range of institutional safety and security facilities, policies, and procedures. Every college in the US needs to do this NOW. We learned the hard way. https://www.naspa.org/project/32-ncsi

Each December, we remember the children and educators whose lives were taken at Sandy Hook Elementary School. This date changed what this month means for so many families.

This year, in the days after that remembrance, our country has seen devastating shootings at Brown University in Rhode Island, Kentucky State University, and in Stockton, California. Together, they are a painful reminder that the impact of mass violence doesn’t end when the cameras leave. Survivors, families, students, and entire communities live with the emotional, physical, and financial aftermath for years.

That’s why VTV Care and the VTV Family Outreach Foundation are calling for state-level mass violence care funds to provide long-term, trauma-informed support. Read and share our recent op-eds on why this matters:

VTV Family Outreach Foundation Mourns Victims of Stockton, California Family Gathering Shooting

Centreville, VA — VTV Family Outreach Foundation is heartbroken by reports of yet another mass shooting, this time at a family gathering and a child’s birthday party in Stockton, California, where at least four people were killed, and ten others were wounded.

“Families gathered to celebrate a child’s life should never have to run for cover or grieve loved ones,” said Jennifer Herbstritt, President of VTV Family Outreach Foundation. “As families who have also lost loved ones to gun violence, we understand the shock, the unanswered questions, and the lifelong grief and recovery these families, individuals, and communities face. Our hearts are with every parent, child, neighbor, and first responder impacted by this tragedy.”

Mass shootings at homes, schools, businesses, places of worship, and community events have made it clear that gun violence is not confined to any one city or state. When violence erupts in spaces meant for joy and connection, like a birthday party, it leaves deep emotional wounds that will last long after the cameras are gone.

The VTVCare mission urges local, state, and federal leaders to move beyond “thoughts and prayers” and to enact and pass evidence-based policies proven to reduce gun violence and save lives. If our leadership cannot prevent gun violence and implement community-based violence intervention initiatives, then they must invest sustainably in long-term survivor services, as done in Virginia and Maine after mass shootings.

“In honor of those killed and injured in Stockton and in honor of our own loved ones, we refuse to accept that this level of violence is normal or inevitable,” Herbstritt continued. “We owe these families more than condolences. We owe them action.”

VTVCare stands in solidarity with the Stockton community and with survivor-support organizations on the ground. The Foundation remains committed to advancing policies, resources, and trauma-informed care for all those whose lives have been forever changed by gun violence.

From one tragedy, to another tragedy, we understand the pain and loss of the families, survivors, and those directly impacted by this mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis. The immediate trauma eventually leads to a journey none of us ever wants to travel. How will we, as a people, as a nation, respond?" At VTVCare we care. Do you? www.vtvcare.org
