“Suits4Success” Story
Hi, my name is Lynden Seals, and I am the Career Coach for Cherokee County Schools. One of the biggest barriers for people trying to get a job is they can’t afford appropriate interview clothing. Our school system is a Title 1 school, which means the majority of our students are low-income. I have the unique position where I go to all schools and see all students in the county in grades 9th-12th. When talking to students about interviewing and how to dress interview appropriate, many of my students respond: “ I don’t have any dress clothing” or “I can’t afford to buy interview/dress clothing”.
This is where the idea of “Suits4Success” was born. I feel that my unique position allows me to reach ALL our high school students with this beneficial program. My mission is to remove this “barrier” so students can be successful and achieve their goals.
For this program to be successful, we need donations. Here is a list of clothing/items we are in need of for our high school students:
-Khaki Pants ( girls/boys)- Dress shoes for girls and boys ( black, grey, or tan preferably that are closed toed/can be flats or heels)- Dresses & business skirts (that come to the knee)- Full Suits ( jacket & pants/skirts)-Blouses and dress shirts- Dress slacks- Ties-Work boots (steel toed for industry jobs. ex. welders) -Non-slip shoes - Hangers (for our clothing closet)- interview appropriate jewelry - NEW socks and panty hose- Polo shirts
