What an amazing group of guys who continue to put in the work and make a real difference on Weiss Lake.

We still have a couple of areas we need to concentrate on, but when you look at what has been accomplished, it’s pretty incredible. 94 locations just this summer.

That’s 94 more places providing cover for young fish and giving them a better chance to survive predation from birds and other predators. And this is something that will benefit the lake for years to come.

The sonar picture shows a large metal spool. It represents the beginning of something we hope will become much bigger, a series of fishing areas marked with visible fish-attractor buoys, so you won’t need expensive electronics to find them.

We sometimes forget that not everyone has a boat loaded with thousands of dollars worth of sonar.

Fishing shouldn’t require it.

Our goal is to make taking your family fishing easier, more affordable, and more enjoyable. We want to see the day when bridges and popular bank-fishing areas have fish attractors nearby. When every marina and public boat ramp has a fishing area close with a visible marker that you can get to easily with any size boat or kayak etc.

Imagine being able to pull up with your kids, look for a marker, drop a line and have a legitimate opportunity to catch fish without having to own a $10,000 electronics package.

That’s the kind of lake we want to help build.

Not just a lake that produces big fish, but a lake that creates memories.

Because years from now, our kids probably won’t remember what electronics we had in the boat.

They’ll remember sitting beside us with a fishing pole in their hand, waiting for that bobber to go under.

It’s time to make fishing fun for everyone again.

And that’s exactly what we’re working toward.

We had an excellent day building fish habitat. Thank to Kerr's Redi Mix Inc. for their generosity, Alabama Power, Bay Springs Country Inn & Marina and every one of these guys today that always show up. Some of them don’t even fish but they believe in what Anglers Unlimited is doing and that means a lot.

We could use all the help we can get tomorrow placing these in the lake if you can spare a few hours. 7am at Bay Springs Marina.

‼️HABITAT PROJECT - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED‼️

The Anglers Unlimited next habitat project will be Monday and Tuesday at Bay Springs Marina, starting at 7:00 AM both days.

Monday, we’ll build the habitats.
Tuesday, we’ll put them in the lake.

If you’ve got a little time to spare, volunteers would be greatly appreciated. Every person who helps makes a difference in putting more structure in Weiss Lake for the future.

Hope to see you there!

Hundreds of 3- to 5-inch crappie showing up on each of the artificial habitat we’ve put in Weiss Lake over the last few years tells us something important:

The habitat is working. We didn’t see it to this extent in recent years. We would see it but nothing like this. Hopefully this means we had an excellent spawn in 2026.

These small crappie are using the new structure for cover and protection, giving them a place to survive and grow. What may look like a simple brush pile or artificial habitat on the bottom is actually becoming part of the lake’s ecosystem.

That’s the goal, not just catching fish today, but creating habitat that produces fish for years to come.

Volunteers have put a lot of time, work and effort into improving Weiss Lake, and seeing young crappie stack up on these structures is one of the most rewarding signs that the work is making a difference.

Thanks to Decks & Docks Restaurant for donating buckets for the habitat projects August 31.

Also we don’t know who it is but thanks to whoever left buckets at Bay Springs Country Inn & Marina.

If you can help tomorrow it would be greatly appreciated. This morning was a BIG win for the fish of Weiss Lake!

A group of dedicated volunteers with Anglers Unlimited Association came together and built 240 new fish habitats that will soon be placed in the lake.

A lot of people enjoy catching fish, but it takes people willing to put in the work behind the scenes to help make those fishing memories possible for years to come. These habitats aren’t just about today’s fishing trip, they’re about creating structure, improving the lake, and leaving something behind for the future.

A huge thank you to Kerr's Redi Mix Inc. for providing the concrete and helping make this project happen. Thanks to Mike Clelland and Alabama Power for buckets and materials. Bay Springs Country Inn & Marina thank you for the use of your facilities. We truly appreciate businesses and volunteers who believe in taking care of the resource that means so much to all of us.

This is what conservation looks like. People coming together, getting dirty, and doing something that will benefit Weiss Lake long after the work is done.

240 habitats today… more protection for fish tomorrow.
