🚑 Did You Know? 🚑

Fire departments throughout Cherokee County play an important role in the local emergency medical response system. At Spring Creek Fire & Rescue, our firefighters are trained to provide immediate medical care and begin assisting patients when emergencies occur.

Our department includes firefighters with additional medical training, many of whom are certified as EMTs, allowing them to provide an enhanced level of patient care during emergencies. Our team can quickly assess patients, provide lifesaving care, and support the transporting ambulance service when they arrive.

🚨 Medical Training Across the Department

Many members of our department are trained in CPR, AED use, patient assessment, bleeding control, oxygen therapy, and other important emergency medical skills. This allows our firefighters to begin patient care quickly and assist EMS providers during medical calls.

By working closely with Atrium Floyd EMS, our firefighters help ensure that citizens and visitors in our community receive rapid emergency care when it matters most.

❤️ Thank you to our dedicated volunteers and the Atrium Floyd EMS providers for their continued service to our community.

This week is School Bus Safety Week!

We are immensely thankful for our school bus drivers and their dedication to getting our children to and from school safely each day. Transportation and Safety Director Mr. Casey Young reminds us to:

🛑🚸 Always stop when the stop-arm is out for school buses! 🚸🛑 Slow down, stay alert and keep kids safe!

Drivers — safety starts with you. If you see a school bus with flashing red lights, make sure to stop and wait.

Today, we pause to honor the lives lost, the heroes who gave everything, and the enduring strength of our nation.

On September 11, 2001, our country was forever changed. Firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and countless others ran toward danger without hesitation, embodying the spirit of courage and selflessness.

We stand united with our brothers and sisters in the emergency services community and with all those affected by this tragedy.

We will never forget the sacrifices made that day, the lives of those we lost, and the resilience shown in the face of adversity. To those who continue to serve and protect, and to the families who carry the memory of loved ones, we offer our deepest gratitude and unwavering support.

Cherokee County EMA Kicks Off National Preparedness Month: “Preparedness Starts at Home”

Cherokee County EMA is joining the nationwide observance of National Preparedness Month (NPM) throughout September. This year’s theme—Preparedness Starts at Home—asks families to take four simple actions: know your risks, make a plan, build a kit, and get involved.

Know Your Risks| In Cherokee County, our most common hazards include severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, flash flooding, winter weather, extreme heat, and hurricane remnants.

Have multiple ways to get warnings: Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) on your phone, a NOAA Weather Radio, and trusted apps. Outdoor warning sirens are designed for people outdoors and should never be your only alert.

Make a Family Emergency Plan| Choose two meeting places (near home and out-of-neighborhood). Identify shelter locations: an interior room/lowest level for tornadoes; higher ground for floods. List important contacts & medications; plan for pets and older adults/people with disabilities. Practice your plan this month.

Build or Refresh a 72-Hour Emergency Kit| Include: water (1 gallon/person/day), non-perishable food, manual can opener, flashlight & extra batteries, first aid kit, medications, copies of vital documents, phone chargers & power bank, whistle, dust masks, work gloves, hygiene items, cash in small bills, infant/elder supplies, pet food & leashes.

Get Involved| Download the Cherokee County EMA app to receive local alerts, view shelters, report damage, and more (iOS & Android links below).

Sign up for CodeRED, Cherokee County’s mass notification system, and encourage neighbors to do the same.
