Update, the Presbyterian Church Little Food Pantry is now closed and will stay empty until further notice! After all the cleaning it was back to usable this morning, but then sometime later this morning someone left 3 overripe nectarines, some potatoes and other loose perishables in the box and now it is infested with ants and roaches.
Another (sigh) friendly reminder from your grumpy uncle Rob. Please do not put anything perishable in the Little Food Pantries. One of our pantry boxes has an ant problem that started last week when someone apparently put trash in it (seriously, why?). A volunteer cleaned it repeatedly and of course did not use any pesticide, because, well food storage and all. This deep cleaning seemed to have solved the problem until earlier this week when someone put fresh blueberries in the box and they burst from the heat (of course) and made a mess. Now the ants have made a grand comeback, drawn in by all that sweet blueberry mess. Now that same volunteer is working on getting it all deep cleaned again, so it is again usable.
