Reunion of Upcountry Families Formerly called the 100 Year Reunion of Upcountry Families

5th Annual Gathering of Families from across South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Virginia, Mississippi, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Oregon, New Jersey, Nebraska and Texas who can trace their family history back to the Upcountry of South Carolina. Individuals and families participate in the event to meet and share information with people who share common ancestors, as well as speak with representatives from regional historical groups and genealogical societies.

We are so excited about the 6th Annual Reunion of Up Country Families to be held March 10,11,12 . This year we will have several events and items for sale that relate directly to the American Revolution as well as artifacts relevant to the Civil War.
Thursday: computer classes in Easley Library and Anderson
County Genealogy Research Library. A class will be held at the Easley Library to help you find your Revolutionary War ancestor. On Friday
you will have research opportunities to search for your families
at Mary Oates Gregory Research Room, Easley Library, Easley,SC;
Anderson Co. Genealogy Research Library in Anderson: the Pendleton
District Commission, Pendleton, as well as the Faith Clayton Room at Southern Wesleyan University, Central, S.C.
There will be tours of McKinney Chapel; Anderson Nimmons cemetery; ,Eastatoe Valley and tour of Old Pickens Church and Cemetery.
Saturday will be the Gathering of Families at Southern Wesleyan University,
Central, S.C. in the University Dining Commons Building from 9:00 AM until
4:00 P.M. At 11:30 there will a tour of the Faith Clayton Genealogical Collection in Rickman Library. Family Tables will be available for you to display research, pictures, old Bibles and documents as well as other
ancestral memorabilia for $20.. Group tables well be available for organizations to display information that will enhance or contribute to
genealogical research or information about the upcountry( at no cost).
There will be lectures available to attend, coffee and snacks at Blue Hill Coffee & Tea from 9 -2, lunch in the dining room from 12 - 1 .

On Friday, there will be guided tours at Old Stone Church Cemetery from 10 a.m. until noon, and also at Roberts Presbyterian Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. the Anderson County Genealogical Library will host a tour of their collection starting at 3 p.m.
That evening, Collins Ole Towns in Central will be open to tour, beginning at 5. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. and must be paid for in advance.
Following the meal, Dennis Chastain will present "Early Trails and Roads of the Upcountry." This event is free.

HEY Y'ALL: The REUNION of UPCOUNTRY FAMILIES returns March 12 through 15!!

Activities begin on Thursday, March 12 at the Pickens County Library in Easley with a computer class, "Introduction to Fold3," at 1:30 and "Beginning Genealogy for Children," designed for students grades three through six, scheduled at 4.
The Mary Oates Gregorie Historical Room at the Library will host an Open House beginning at 5 p.m., followed by a special event at 7 p.m. The topic will be "Lewis Redmond and Manse Jolly: Upcountry Bad Boys & the Women Who Loved Them." There is a small charge for this event.

The main event takes place on Saturday, March 14 on the campus of Southern Wesleyan University; beginning at 10 a.m. Families display their genealogical research, old documents and photographs, Bibles and historical keepsakes. This is an excellent opportunity to share information and add to your own family history research!
The sponsors, as well as other genealogical and historical organizations also have display tables, offering information and assistance.
Speakers this year include Virginia Pierce with the "Chronicling America Newspaper Project" at 2 p.m. and Jan Alpert, former president of the National Genealogical Society, who will speak about "Using DNA to Supplement Your Family History Research at 3 p.m.
