Crater Foundation

Crater Foundation The Crater Foundation is a non-profit established to assist students in School District #6.

Thanks to the Foundation, Crater is the only public high school of any size in Oregon that provides scholarship assistance to each graduate that applies. BEGINNING WITH A $4,000 DONATION IN 1991, THE CRATER FOUNDATION HAS GROWN TO MANAGE OVER $2.5 MILLION IN ASSETS. In 1991 Laurie Lucas, a 1990 Crater High graduate, died in a tragic non-combat accident while serving in the United States Air Force.

Upon her death, her family donated $4,000 to Crater High School for the purpose of establishing a scholarship fund for a graduating Crater High Softball player. The generous donation inspired a small group of volunteers to create an organization to support District #6 students by securing donations from community members, businesses, and families. In 1992 these volunteers applied and received Non-Profit status and the Crater Foundation was born. Since 2000 the Foundation met the goal of being able to award a scholarship to every graduating senior that applies, regardless of GPA. In 2005 the Board of Directors took another important step by approving to award scholarships to past Crater graduates to continue their education beyond their initial year of college. The Crater Foundation finds its home in the halls of Crater High thanks to the efforts of District #6 and Crater High School.
