The Farm Tour will wrap up the morning with a farm-fresh lunch and conversation about organic production and farm-based hospitality at Providence Farm & CSA for continued learning and lunch!

Andrea and Ryan Romeyn started Providence Organic Farm at its current location in 2008 after years of education, learning, and farm managerial experience. Providence exists to nourish the community, providing wholesome foods, connection, and educational opportunities. Andrea, Ryan, and their family strive to bring joy and health to our community by creating a beautiful farm, market, “farm-to-table” café & natural foods store. It’s quite a unique experience to be able to see the actual farm that grows the food you’re enjoying. They grow for area farmers markets, for wholesale, AND for people who buy subscriptions to their weekly or bi-weekly “CSA Farm Boxes ‘O Goodness”… That’s where people pre-order fresh veggie boxes for pick-up on a regular basis year-round.

The foundation of Providence Organic Farm is growing healthy living soil that feeds thriving plants, which then nourishes people-family, friends and community.

The second stop on the 2026 Farm Tour is King Orchards — from orchards to hard cider, we’ll explore how this multi-generation farm has grown a thriving agritourism brand.

King Orchards is a family-owned orchard nestled in the heart of northern Michigan. Our roots run deep, spanning over 45 years of cultivating a diverse array of fresh fruits that delight customers from June’s succulent strawberries to October’s crisp apples. With a variety of fruits (and some vegetables!) available over the course of the entire growing season, we are the premier destination in Northwest Michigan for u-pick berries, cherries, and other orchard fruits.

Founded by brothers John and Jim King in 1980, alongside their wives Betsy and Rose, King Orchards has flourished into a second-generation farming family. Passionate about the farming life, we’ve worked tirelessly to produce top-quality fruit on the northern fringes of Michigan’s renowned cherry growing region. Our orchards sprawl across glacier-formed ridges and rolling hills near the picturesque Torch Lake and Lake Michigan’s Grand Traverse Bay.

King Orchards actively cultivate over 140 acres of Montmorency tart cherries, Balaton cherries, black sweet cherries, apples, peaches, pears, apricots, strawberries, raspberries, plums, and nectarines. We have two markets, conveniently located just 7 miles apart along US 31 and M-88 near Torch Lake, each offering its own unique experience: the US 31 Market, complete with a bustling bakery, crafts daily delights like pies, cookies, muffins, jams, fruit butters, and jellies throughout the harvest season, and the open year-round M-88 Market, offering frozen fruit and an array of delectable pies and bakery items. Join us in celebrating the simple joys of farm-fresh goodness at King Orchards, where every fruit tells a story of passion, dedication, and the beauty of northern Michigan’s bounty.

The 2026 Agritourism Summit is getting closer, and not to be dramatic, but you don't want to miss out on the Farm Tour and Soirée. Seriously — it's going to be so good we had to extend the soirée by an hour.

The Farm Tour takes place May 13, 2026, and takes a limited amount of participants for behind-the-scenes visits, tours, tastings and more at local agritourism destinations that have crafted unique experiences and overcome obstacles to turn them into the impressive operations they are. The Farm Tour is a great way to get inspiration, learn from the experiences of some local powerhouses, and network with folks who are in the same spot as you.

This year, we will be visiting:
• Ethanology Distillation
• King Orchards
• Providence Farm & CSA
• Cellar 1914
• Short's Brewing Company
• Traverse City Horse Shows

There will be tasting opportunities throughout the day with a locally sourced lunch hosted at Providence Farm. The day will wrap up with our soirée at Flintfield's Horse Park with dinner by renowned chef Jimmy Schmidt, featuring locally-sourced ingredients with special appearances from destinations we visited on the 2024 Farm Tour.

MDARD announced a new Regenerative Value Chains Grant to support infrastructure and marketing needs for farmers using regenerative agriculture through it's Farm to Family Program.

MDARD’s Farm to Family Program Announces New Grant Opportunity
Regenerative Value Chains Grant will support infrastructure, marketing needs for farmers using regenerative agriculture practices.

Selected recipients will receive funding for purchases that may include on-farm point-of-sale equipment, marketing materials, light processing equipment and washing and packing infrastructure. Examples of eligible expenses include meat freezers for livestock producers that use rotational grazing or marketing services to highlight regenerative practices on product packaging.

This is Farm to Family’s third grant opportunity since the program launched 18 months ago thanks to Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s leadership and bipartisan support in the legislature. The program’s first grant – Food Hubs and Farm Stops – has now translated to more than $1 million in local food purchasing and moving more than 140,000 pounds of produce and protein around Michigan. Farm to Family’s second grant opportunity – Last Food Mile – plans to announce recipients at the beginning of May.

MDARD will accept applications through the MIAgGrants portal until Friday, May 1 at 5 p.m. ET. Applicants for this funding opportunity must be farmers in Michigan who can describe how they apply regenerative principles to their operation. Grant awards will be capped at $50,000.
